You could see from some of his interview towards the end of his career that his speech was deteriorating quickly, poor bloke dealt with Parkinson's over half of his life. Definitely one of the GOAT's, shame he couldn't have much of a life post-boxing..

I've defended Ali's position on avoiding war in this thread, but let's be real about the Vietnam war. Saying it was a stupid war and those that went were stupid for doing so is spitting a lot of vets in the face. Yes it was a civil war in a foreign country, but far from a fair or even sided one.

Let's not turn a blind eye to the fact that the Soviets and Chinese were financing the north and arming them like a sum a bitch. The US army has a history of not shying away from getting involved when an unjust oppression is taking place, especially when mass genocide is involved. I used to be a peace loving hippy in my teens, but I've since grown wiser and realize that when mass murderers w/a lot of coin and ammunition come to power, I'm glad there's a country that will stand up to it and at least attempt to stop it.

I don't know if his views changed over the past 30 years that he wasn't interviewed or not. But just like I think it was wrong to give people like Senator Robert Byrd a pass on having been a former klan member when he was being eulogized, I think it's wrong to give Ali a pass here.

joe was a legend as well. what a boxer and all round great guy. everyone has different ways in which they contribute. joe might have been a great fighter (and that knock down of ali was GOAT knock down imo) but what ali did for blacks in general is on another level.
