It's not a black vs white argument brah. It just so happens that blacks are poorer per capita than whites. This explains why there were tougher penalties against cheap 'crack' ******* than the expensive 'powder' *******. Even though it has now been proven that crack ******* isn't anymore addictive than powdered. Since blacks could only afford the cheaper crack ******* they were given much harsher prison sentences.

if you take away the HEAVY "rape" word - that usually makes people think of "violent aggravated rape" and just consider that at the end of the day what happened was a newly post-pubescent drunk boy who humped a incapacitated girl who was passed out... Is it that big of a deal?

She was not beat up. She was not physically forced against her will. She was simply taken advantage of. I do not feel like that warrants a lengthy prison sentence. It sucks for the girl, and the kid should definitely get in trouble for this but common what is it really?

I was going to go political. I typed out 2 huge paragraphs but then it's hard to tell who's a troll, who's racist. and who's legitimate a hysterical SJW looking for any article to feed their illogical agenda. Not worth it. All I will say if the facts are true he deserves a lot, a bad judgement but the disproportionate attention and fallout from cases like this will hit a lot harder - because society is fuking stupid.

Here, though, is the booking photo taken the night of his arrest and sent to us by Stanford University's Department of Public Safety, the arresting agency.



Brock Turner, 20, was taken into custody after raping a woman behind a dumpster on Stanford's Palo Alto campus on on January 18, 2015. Though convicted on multiple felony counts, with prosecutors asking for a 6-year custodial sentence, Turner was given only 6 months in jail. With good behavior, he could be out in weeks.

The lenient sentence (he will also spend 3 years on probation and must enroll on the sex offenders' registry) drew much criticism, as did authorities' apparent refusal to release booking photographs of Turner until today. Without access to the public record, most outlets (including Boing Boing) ran a yearbook photo that presented a clean-cut, smiling athlete.

Photographs can influence the public's appreciation of a case, and many criticize police and the media when poor or minority suspects are presented with booking photos, while suspects like Turner end up given the benefit of professional headshots.
