Even if I don't like the writing at all, Camus in the Myth of Sisyphus makes some sense on this matter, and honestly I think that anyone in decent psychic health would disagree with Schopenhauer's "pendulum between pain and boredom" quote (I'm talking of the phenomenological side, I couldn't care less that what we are/do is insignificant in the grand scheme of things).

IMHO for most the problem is more social/political than existential, modern Western society is a pathetic mix of conformism, superficiality, keeping up with the Joneses, wage slaving, consumerism (i.e. the special child of materialism), gambling (if you think "startup culture" is anything else you're a loser and I do own a "startup" so STFU), sadomasochism (i.e. the real psychological force the corporate ladder is built upon) and yes slooting (from both sexes tbh).

The point is: you don't need to suffer. We are in a society that has realized the material conditions to enable most humans to avoid unnecessary suffering most of the time but will still educate people and promote ideas and organize itself in such a way as to create what amounts to collective self inflicted torture. Just give all of them the finger and go full Sisyphus.

Read my sig *******
PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.
GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.
GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.

Do what ever makes you happy. If thats praying to god 4 times a day, doesnt matter if its real or not, it makes you happy so do it.

Simple.

If you want to spend your life acquiring materialistic things, go for it.

OP is a miserable kunt. He made a thread like a week ago saying basically how life is pointless if you don't have an attractive face. Anybody who is that shallow is bound to have a bleak outlook on life.

this kinda hit my feels. Even just 10 years ago it was normal to be good friends with your neighbors. My closest friends were the kids who lived across from me and on my street. These days it's so different. I've never actually seen my neighbor except for them pulling in their driveway in a car

The will to survive which both the man and brute hold dear is the only true meaning of life, but paradoxically, since we're all gonna die at the hands of fate in a senseless manner, it matters very little if we survive individually or as a race/species. What happens from A.) Womb, to point B.) It's all cope to deal with the innate depression that comes from being higher processing animals

Lol who cares. You can sit around and be all depressed about something you can't control, something that doesn't matter, or you can go live your life. There is so much in this world for you to do, why waste it in your basement thinking about how everyone dies. Everyone knows life is pointless. But you can create worth in society, create a point to live, etc. Have a child and I bet your life will change. You have a purpose, but you have to create it yourself. Otherwise you're just taking in air and wasting this beautiful anomaly called life.

God some of you guys are pathetic. If anyone ever said this to my face irl I would slap you and call you a pussy. THen make you get out of that pathetic mindset. Find what makes you happy and just do it....

See my sig. I have a 2 y/o son, he's the sole reason I'm not dropping out of society and becoming a full time rotting NEET. I made an extreme mistake bringing another life into this world, especially with my health problems and cripplingly low IQ/intelligence. I'm going to have to wait until he's grown before I can give up on life. It sounds horrible but any person who cares about humanity should never fuk up and have a child; its the most selfish and retardest thing ive ever done and it wasnt until i realized how chitty and pointless existence is (last year) that i realized my mistake in having a child

The reason no one says stuff like this IRL is because people hate to see their copes crushed in their face. im not smart, im really dumb but at least i have the sense to realize this

Wtf? You're supposed to take care of your child (and therefore keep yourself healthy) for as long as you live. When you have a child that's it, they must become your whole world and you can't ever turn your back on them.

There is no point to life other than to pass on your genes, anyone that says otherwise is delusional. But there are activities you can do in life (entertainment, spiritual, religious etc) that make it more enjoyable in the moment. That still doesnt give life a point though

I think I died once several years ago for a few seconds, SRS hear me out. I had a roommate at the time that wanted to try this cool thing on me saying it would make me dizzy.
He said with your back to the wall exhale while I press on your chest and see how long you can hold it, so I did it and immediately fell to the floor and passed out or so I thought.
I had the most free liberating feeling for a moment and nothing mattered, money and bills for some reason were the first things that went through my mind like I didn't need it or something.
I finally came to and I started to tell my roommate and friend about what I had experienced and they were disappointed by what I was saying. Ever since then I never told anyone because I was afraid that they would think I was suicidal or something.
I know that when you guys die that you will feel the same thing that I felt. Ever since then I have never been afraid of dying.

Passing on your genes isn't the reason for life, only 20% of men through history have passed on their genes. Survival of the individual is the closest thing to "meaning", but even then people deny life, take it away from others, kill themselves and disregard it.

I think you just need to make peace with mortality any way you can. I stay up at night thinking about this sometimes. Regardless of what you believe happens after death it doesn't really matter. It's all about making peace while you're still here. I think for many people that would stem from accomplishing major goals so as not to feel too much regret with age, and also from having children. All individuals die, yet life is still here. Think of it as a bittersweet sacrifice if you want- you brought life into this world so you must give it your place.

I understand that might be selfish in an overpopulated world, but nature has a way of balancing things. I'm sure we all hope that we and our progeny aren't part of the culling.

Anyway, as far as meaning- it could be that humanity and life itself are just random byproducts of events in the universe. Understand that we still know very little though. Maybe someday our descendents or some species evolved from us will discover something that gives them joy or a real purpose or whatever. Maybe they'll be capable of things that are impossible for us to understand. Maybe we'll all go extinct in ten years. Point is there's no point in being so damned negative when we don't really know that much.

I understand life isn't fair though. I certainly feel for borderline retarded people who die virgins, or elderly who lose their kids and know their bloodline is done. Maybe death would be a comfort in that situation. I don't know.

The truth is humans are just another animal and have little control over circumstances and once dead, there is nothing else they can do. Look at how much people are abandoning traditional conservative views, 10 years ago gays were openly discriminated against, now their are 100k transexuals being 'reborn' every year. Society is fastly losing faith in all the copes and norms our ancestors put in place to help us cope with the sad reality that is life

The fact of the matter is that once you're born, you know you're going to die; what you do in between is of little or zero importance or significance in the grand scheme of things, you're better off just rotting instead of making yourself suffer. There is no reason or point in investing in politics, philosophy, religion, communion, ect so long as you get yours on earth and don't get attached when you're going to die a senseless death at the hands of fate. There is no reason to mourn the dead because their time, like all of ours is always approaching and is inevitable; like all of ours.
