I legit can't tell based on the story

Unless it is common for that to happen there and the parents should've known it was risky?

That gator doesn't represent the 99% of moderate aligators

Pretty much any creature comes close to the water can be surprised and dragged into the water.

It's pretty clear that the alligator became radicalized at some point in his life
alligators are like slower amphibious velociraptors. from what I overheard in a bar, they're more dangerous than like 80% of the dinosaurs that walked the earth.
It really is crazy to think about how far removed we are from the food chain like someone else already mentioned. it's just nature and you can't fault the alligator one bit. so fukking weird having to accept that fact with no rational reason for revenge. no trial, no apology, no nothing. just inexplicable bad luck.
How do the parents even pray after something like this? there's just no way to make sense of a death like this whatsoever. that is no way for a 2 year old to go...

Thats unbelievably tragic.
I must ask though, WTF is up with Florida???
Seriously though, that state has every other location in the United States beat by a country mile when it comes to tales of the bizarre, horrifying, outlandish, and straight up weird variety.
I think the vast majority of the wackiest news stories I've heard or read about in the past several years have come from that state.
What are the odds that a particular state (even crazier is that its one city) leads the breaking news segment on the national news network three consecutive times?
Just another weird coincidence for Florida I guess.

Just the chance of the child still alive is enough to keep looking no matter how long it takes.

This is no different from camping in bear country. The boy would have been eaten by a bear or pack of wolves.

What a tragic story. Feel extremely bad for the parents... they will blame themselves forever and wont ever forgive themselves, even if truly it was just a bizarre accident and bad luck. People will easily point fingers at them and tell them its their fault, they should always keep an eye on their kids etc, but lets be honest, they were on vacation and a gotdamn alligator took their 2 year old child. Im sure they werent croc experts or anything and didnt really knew the dangers of letting the kid chill there.
Alligators go from 0-100 quicker than a Ferrari srs. Even if you were looking for an alligator in a body of water approaching you, you probably couldnt tell unless you were on a high point. **** is ridiculous. I say we give the parents a pass on this one and let them mourn the death of their kid. Im sure they dont need the whole internet ganging up in order for them to learn the lesson.

"The flowers bloom, then wither... The stars shine and one day become extinct. This earth, the sun, the galaxies and even the big universe, someday will be destroyed. Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Lot of lakes/ponds standing water and the clue is there is nothing in it or on it. Anyone should be extremely cautious around that in FL, Georgia or the Carolina's.
In the Amazons areas especially ponds it's not just caymans but snakes hiding in the water.
