People travel from all over the world to go to Florida. If you think resorts don't have a responsibility to protect their guests then you are the potato, srs. Resorts don't put "beware of gators" because it scares the guests.

Are all lakes in Florida similarly obliged to be fenced in? Don't people have any assumed risk and responsibility for the fact that there are animals in lakes? What about alligators transiting between lakes? Must there be signs on every corner that there might be alligators in the vicinity and that by existing in Florida you acknowledge these dangers?

I feel bad for the dad. I think it's a stretch to blame him for it, but he is ultimately the only one who could have prevented it. Where there is water, there may be alligators. The resort takes responsibility for the pool, but the lagoon is clearly marked "no swimming". So don't swim in it, dumbasses.

It's irrelevant. The implied danger does not matter. It is not left up to you, the resort guest, to determine whether or not you can handle it. You're not a 5-year-old who throws a tantrum and whines "BUT WHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYY NOOOOOTTT" when you're told you can't do something you want to do. You are on someone else's property and have been told to stay out of the water. It's your duty to do so. By ignoring the sign, you are not authorized to be there and are simply a trespasser. All that matters is that this water is plainly not for swimming.

Now, if you want to make an argument that the resort didn't do enough to make the signs plainly visible and legible, I can see that. That's a different story from arguing that "no swimming doesn't mean no swimming", though.

I agree with what you are saying. I'm just saying had the parents known there was a real threat of alligators in the water their son would be alive today. I think its the resort owners responsibility to warn them of the possibility. If there were danger gator signs that were ignored then I withdraw all my statements.

A few pages back, I saw a photo of children playing on the beach of that Alligator infested lake. No way in hell should that beach be accessible to anyone if theres alligators in the water. The Alligators could also come up on the beach while children are building sandcastles and mess them up. Disney World is partly responsible and should be sued 100%

I went to Disney World with my dad when I was about 10.

We were at Epcot Center. We went through a door in France and realized there was nothing there. We turned around and came back, and only realized afterwards that the door was clearly marked "Employees Only". LOL, right? Oh, well. Dumb tourists.

I think that's more or less what happened here. It was after sunset, it probably didn't matter what the signs said. The parents just weren't thinking/looking. This time it wasn't an "oh, well, LOL".

It happens. People turn the wrong way down a one-way street because they had a fight with their wife and they're still thinking about it instead of looking at the signs as closely as they should and that's it, CRASH, they're dead. It's still their fault, though.

My guess is that Disney probably WILL close off that area and limit people to the controlled pool areas. That, or they'll at least launch a more aggressive program to try to remove alligators from the area. They already pulled 4, God knows how many more are in there. No doubt, they'll also pay a massive settlement to keep it out of court. That doesn't mean this was their responsibility, though. It just sucks all around.

I travel to Arizona regularly. It's entirely conceivable that if I don't pay attention to where I put my hands and feet on rocky terrain or an area with a lot of shady hiding places, a rattlesnake will bite me. It's rare (as is getting eaten by an alligator), but it happens. If I do dumb things because I'm not paying attention, it's much more likely to happen.
