All bodies of water in Florida are likely to contain alligators. It's just the way it is. Ponds at the golf course, etc. People wake up and find alligators snoozing in their backyard pools from time to time.

Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

One means DO NOT and the other means GO AHEAD AND TAKE YOUR CHANCES.
Come on fellas, atleast if your gnna argue about something get your facts straight first.
At the end of the day, yes it is the parents fault. They are responsible, they ignored the signs that say DO NOT SWIM.
As a father to a 2 & 3 year old I can't imagine the pain these parents are going through right now. It goes without saying they are responsible, I don't see how anybody thinks Disney will be responsible. They have signs posted that say NO SWIMMING, they do not need to post Beware Alligator signs, although that's not a bad idea seeing as how many gators are around the area.

We were at Epcot Center. We went through a door in France and realized there was nothing there. We turned around and came back, and only realized afterwards that the door was clearly marked "Employees Only". LOL, right? Oh, well. Dumb tourists.
I think that's more or less what happened here. It was after sunset, it probably didn't matter what the signs said. The parents just weren't thinking/looking. This time it wasn't an "oh, well, LOL".
It happens. People turn the wrong way down a one-way street because they had a fight with their wife and they're still thinking about it instead of looking at the signs as closely as they should and that's it, CRASH, they're dead. It's still their fault, though.
My guess is that Disney probably WILL close off that area and limit people to the controlled pool areas. That, or they'll at least launch a more aggressive program to try to remove alligators from the area. They already pulled 4, God knows how many more are in there. No doubt, they'll also pay a massive settlement to keep it out of court. That doesn't mean this was their responsibility, though. It just sucks all around.
I travel to Arizona regularly. It's entirely conceivable that if I don't pay attention to where I put my hands and feet on rocky terrain or an area with a lot of shady hiding places, a rattlesnake will bite me. It's rare (as is getting eaten by an alligator), but it happens. If I do dumb things because I'm not paying attention, it's much more likely to happen.

It's fcking Florida. It's one of the things the state is known for crying out loud. You've got to be pretty stupid to go to Florida and not know about them.

I thought it was common knowledge that any contact with dihydrogen monoxide is frequently fatal to humans. Signs should just say that.

How did the dad even fukkin fail?
If it were my kid I'd be eye gouging the fukk outta the gator and if that failed I'd reach to the back of its mouth - it has some chit that if you grab and pull it starts to drown (srs).
Also RIP alligators that were killed and didn't do anything.. Just like that gorilla

PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way.
GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what?
GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad.
GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.

Yes, that's what he said. He didn't say "at a resort where people pay". He said beaches should not be accessible where there are alligators in the water.
The logical conclusion is that we cannot have freshwater beaches in Florida, because those conditions may exist at all of them. You remove them on Friday, there will be more by Monday.
Regardless, your point is not invalid, but I do think it's unrealistic. The fact is that it's an open body of water, man-made or not. It interacts with nature and hosts wildlife, as all lakes and lagoons do. Not only is it not a swimming pool, but it's explicitly marked as not being for swimming. The expectation that all wildlife in it will be friendly and harmless is unreasonable: the resort does not have control over what enters it, and that should be obvious just from looking at it. There's water moccasins, too, poisonous snakes. Does the resort really have to spell out everything that could potentially happen? What if the birds in the lake attract wildcats and the wildcats start eating children? Floods and hurricanes have been known to drop sharks in inland bodies of water. What about sharks? How long is this sign to explain real life going to be beyond what every adult should already know, which is "nature might try to eat you"?

I've been to Disney World and The Grand Floridian numerous times, and I never once thought alligators were in the water. I understand that gators are all over Florida, but I figured that Disney would have somehow taken precautionary measures to prevent them from infesting their man made lakes. At the very least, I am surprised that they have sand with chairs so close to gator infested water. I bet the majority of people who are not from Florida would be shocked to find out that so many gators are in Disney waters.

Stop blaiming the parents. They were tourists, they made a very novice mistake that just so happens to have ended with their 2 year old kid getting dragged underwader by a 7 foot alligator. I think thats punishment enough, isnt it? The parents will most likey off themselves or at least be empty for the rest of their lives, all because one simply stupid mistake, one stupid ass rule they didnt follow, maybe because of negligence, or maybe because they simply didnt see the sign, who knows, but losing their kid in that way is punishment enough, no need to put them in jail, or harass them online.
Lets be honest, every parent has done something stupid. No parent is perfect, so get off your high horse misc and let the gotdamn family deal with their loss. Ignoring a "No swimming big drop" sign is in no way a mistake big enough that would often end in a 2 year old kid losing their live to a croc, and is no mistake big enough to blame the poor parents on. Cut them some slack, they were on vacations, at a nice resort, on a beach looking area, with no signs of alligators. Dude losing his child to an alligator was the last thing he expected TBH.
Inb4 "but its florida!". Yeah *******s and its a beach looking resort with access to everyone who wants. What if a couple of cheeky kids go and escape their parents and start playing there? The resort is definitely at fault in this, even more than the parents.
Im no idiot, but if i met a girl on that resort, and wanted to look for a place to fool around and playfully hang with her and ****, that place would seem like a great place to do it. Nice beach looking place, dark, quiet etc, i could see myself getting playful with a girl trying to splash her and ****, and id would just be careful of the "deep drop"... but if there was an alligator sign id be as far as that place as possible lol.
Calm the fuk down misc, let the poor family deal with this. People have made much worse mistakes with no consequences before, this was just a tiny **** mistake with the highest posible punishment, let the dad do his mourning please.

Compared with that, the human life is only a blink, just a little time. In that short time - people are born, laugh, cry, fight, are injured, feel joy, sadness, hate someone, love someone. All in just a moment. And then, are embraced by the eternal sleep called death."

Btw, do Salties in Australia infest freshwater pools like southern USA too?

Fuk Florida. If it wasn't enough you had to worry about somebody chewing your face off, now you have to worry about a modern day dinosaur hauling off one of your kids.
Lets sell that state to Cuba.
