The parents are 100% at fault.

If you been to Orlando you know there's NO SWIMMING/Alligators in the water signs EVERYWHERE.

Oh and the kid wasn't near the water. The kid was IN the water. Strong WTF.
They don't want you to win.

Common sense Crew.

Also, I know most people imagine some swamp with a no swimming sign - doesn't look like that at all. I know I'd have a false sense of safety here

Yeah it's not looking good for disney, family is about to get paid

Either it was saving him for later, or it got him underwater and realized it wasn't something it recognized as food after all.

gators dont just rip their prey apart in the moment, they pull it into the water to drown it/suffocate it then save it in their den/burrow for later.

The real issue here that the parents really have no excuse for is that the child is two. At that age they have been walking for a maximum of one year. Even if there are no alligatord at all and you are at a kidie water park your TWO year old should never be unattended. It should be in a child seat or stroller or if not in one of those in an arms length if that in a safe situation like a flat field. Within water a child should nevrr be unattended, let alone at night and in a foreign area. If the kid was even like 5 than maybe there is a case to be made that Disney is somewhat liable. But at two there is no excuse and this is simple parental neglect. Obvsiously the parents let their guard down but the circumstances are unforgivable here and someones life was takien away fir it.

Tired of hearing people defend the parents. All of this after the whole gorilla incident where parents should of been way more alert, The issue here is no one wants to take responsibility for themselves anymore, they just wanna blame a lack of a sign, etc for their own lack of common sense.

Maybe they're like sharks, where they just chomp to see if its food but lose interest when they realize humans are too bony? Maybe the struggle with the father shook the gator up and it lost its appetite? Maybe it wasn't hungry atm?

yea, makes sense.
I used to watch a lot of discovery/national geographic vids of crocs going HAM on buffalos and gazelles
they'd grab them and immediate start doing death rolls absolutely devouring the catch

guess gators are pretty different

Stupid chits ITT ragging on the parents. Most of you had never kissed a girl let alone have kids with one, talking bout how they should have done this and this. Yeahh there is a no swim sign, but they weren't swimming. They were standing in the water. Around here they have no swimming signs for the stupidest chit, brb standing a hundred yards from the bodies of water cuz no swimming signs means there is an alligator in there. If they were Florida native I would understand the hate.
I'd imagine if any of you *******s ever had kids youd keep them in the house all their lives.

And also alligators can snatch you if you're just standing on the shore, would the no swimming sign have saved them

I have a 14 month old and this is dead on.

Absolutely ridiculous a kid was by himself in the water in the dark at age 2, regardless of alligators or not.

This. If the kid was playing outside the water, but near it, the croc would have snatched him just as easily. In fact thats how they get most of their prey, they get them when they are drinking water OUTSIDE the body of water. Disney is definitely at fault in this one.

It is not common sense that there could be a gotdamn alligator in a beach resort thingy on disney. With that pic someone posted ITT, i would actually WANT to go and chill there and just watch the stars... maybe get my feet a bit wet with a girl and ****, a "no swimming" sign wouldnt keep me from putting my feet on the water. A "Watch out for alligators" sign? I wouldnt even touch the water or get near it.

You guys need to have better critical thinking srs. "No swimming sign" is not enough. Parents love to see their kids happy, and the kid probably wanted to touch the water or whatever, the parent must have thought that if the kid felt or something, well there is a fukin grown ass up dude that can help him up so drowning is obviously out of the question. Alligators possibility? Im sure the father would have never let his kid chill there

Sorry disney, you are at fault. You learned today the hard way that not all tourists are aware of crocs being inside your own territory, and you didnt have signs to warn them. Sorry but a bit of prevention goes a long way for simple things like these. Hope the parents get millions srs.

Dad was watching him, it wasnt by himself.

Ya a gator can snatch your kid out of the water as well, but your odds of jumping on/wrestling with it are a hell of a lot better on land. In the water there's probably less than 1% chance of getting the kid back but on land that's probably closer to 10%

Yeah brah, im sure everybody's disney dream is to wrestle an alligator for their son's life. They should take those pics they take at rides on that beach location too so they have a souvenir pic of the exact moment where the dad snatched the kid from the 7 foot thing even if the kid has a broken neck from the thousand bite force

was the kid actually alone? im guessing the father would be standing right beside him so he doesnt fall.

i was mad at the parents at first but now i can understand why they werent more careful.

as someone who doesnt live in the south i always knew florida had gators but i didnt know they were fukking infested with them, especially a disney world hotel of all places. what tourist is thinking to watch out for gators when they go on their trip? none.

what the fuk is disney thinking having a beach right beside a gator infested lake?

Guys, seriously...common it's Florida.

So many tourists and many of them don't know or recognize the dangers of gators in Florida. They are EVERYWHERE. No, the kid should not have been in the water. Yes, No Swimming signs were posted (which is technically what he was doing). There were other people on that sand front relaxing. I lived here 10+years of my life and I never once wanted, to swim in anything other than a pool. It's too dangerous. I've seen them snatch dogs from neighbors back yards in a "creek/river run". I've honestly shot one with a paintball gun 20ft away in the face....and nothing. No reaction. They are savage as fuk.

The only good thing that came from this entire story....was then fact that that young man was found intact. Super rare, and I'm honestly surprised by this. There's a reason they were cutting alligator bellies all day to find the young man. That gator didn't even do, what most would (eat and swallow). I say intact, because this young mans parents can "maybe" (IDK cus I'll likely never see the photos) have an open casket memorial. Or at least have most of their young one to bury. Chit's sad brahs......but beware....when you go to Florida....DO NOT SWIM in the lakes/ponds/rivers. I've even seen gators in the ocean near a river break. RIP young man and sorry to his family.......one of the worst things to witness....and his young sister saw it all happen too....hope she copes and her parents help her along this path. 'Nuff said.

Thing is though its a massive part of the culture down here. You cant drive three exits without seeing a blow up gator or advertisement for a gator farm. Plus I guarantee sometime in their trip they were reminded that alligators exist there either through observation, conversation or pictures/signs elsewhere.

Not to mention they let a 2 year old walk in the water at dark. Unless he was holding the dads hand thats just a dumb idea, and still it being nighttime makes it a bad idea.

Guys, go to any lake in florida during the summer on a weekend. Its packed with people and NO ONE lets small children walk in the water unattended.

Make sure you tell them not to wade in the water too cause ppl are stupid. Heck everyone should just stay 200 feet from any water source just to be safe.

Btw, do Salties in Australia infest freshwater pools like southern USA too?

AUSSIEspls respond.
There used to be a point on Aus coastline where if you went any further north, all saltwater is considered crocodile territory. With floods over the years though there have been sightings of crocs near mid coast regions of areas where they only used to inhabit the north.

I live near this limit and although they are rare and only spotted in creeks/waterways, everyone knows to be extra careful near water + snakes etc.

Same in Florida....safest places to swim are the gulf beaches and the clear water springs around the state. Only reason being is because you can see what's swimming around you.
