I still don't understand how California can have all these gun restrictions and have them not be deemed unconstitutional. And why is Jerry Brown still in office? He should have been recalled by now.

Let me tell you something about our state bro, we don't actually like the Constitution because it's old and racist and chit.

The bills that passed all came from SF reps, the absolute leftist of the left.

Yeah I think the intimidation factor would be good. I'd rather knock someone out cold rather than have bloodshed, but if it's between myself and family / loved ones, tour is over for my enemy.

Funny a few years ago I used to be against owning a gun. Frankly guns to a degree intimidate me, but I have shot some a few times and am working on being comfortable with them.

I'm not saying the AR-15 is useless but in my opinion I would feel safer in a close quarters life or death situation with a handgun or shotgun. If i'm waiting on the intruder or are from a distance then I would take the AR-15.

I agree. I have no sympathy for some scumbag who breaks into homes with the intent of harming the occupants, but shooting someone in that situation should always be the absolute last resort.

Glad to hear you've come around to 2A rights too man. Gun rights are civil rights, and we need as many people supporting it as possible.

Trust me man, you are much more capable of protecting yourself with a rifle than a pistol, even at close range.

Your skillset allows you to knock someone out like that though... to most people learning to shoot a firearm is much easier and more practical than learning to fight.

As far as intimidation goes, I always get my slides racked back on my guns around the house, normally without a magazine in them as well. Only one that stays loaded is the one by my bed. The rest need about 2 seconds of prep to be operable. And hearing the slide rack forward on a pistol is similar to a rifle, you know what that sound means. Intimidation factor is still there, not to mention having a firearm pointed at you. Doesn't matter what it is, being on the other end of something that can end you that quickly should intimidate you regardless.

Unless you have lots of land or a big house, AR-15 is not advantageous at all.

I would honestly rather have a glock for the mobility, or a Saiga-12 with a drum mag.

Pump-action shotguns are always a good option, simply because you can keep them loaded indefinitely without bullet deformation.

Oh, you mean as compared to a mag fed shotgun.

Sure... just like any rifle or pistol.

I'd take an AR over a pump shotgun anyday.

Way less recoil, way more ammo, way easier to manipulate... and still extremely effective ballistics.

Well, I meant internal tube-mag weapons. If you leave bullets in stacked mags for too long they can deform.

No we dont, that's the last thing I want. Depending in state laws there are legal consequences for shooting a home invader. I'd prefer to just chase them off. But then you've got some criminal knowing you own guns.

Maybe you have castle doctrine and the legal right to open fire... but what if this individual has gang ties?

It's an all around bad situation nobody wants.

Don't know that I agree about keeping a pump shotgun loaded indefintely, but honestly it all comes down to whatever you're comfortable with.

I have a saiga 12, and the mag seems to stack the ammo in such a way that the contact stress is more on the metal base of the shells than on the plastic.

Keeping a loaded mag in the gun can deform the front of the shell, but due to the AK action you can simply force the bolt shut.

There's a reason the BTDT types don't choose a shot gun for HD any more. Handguns or AR, shot gun are old news and sub par choice the bubba's think have dat der "knock down power" and such. There's a legit argument for the pistol vs AR and pros and cons to either. There's no legit debate of a shot gun over the AR at this point for reasons you touch on. What ever one has the most training with and comfortable with is probably the best choice of the three, but all things being equal, shotguns are not even in the running these days.

Add a laser blumpkins. Indoors especially at night that'll be very helpful to put shots on target. Put the on sensor at the grip so when you pick the weapon up and grab the grip, it turns the laser on.

You know typical handgun rnds will pass through walls easier than 5.56 right? That's another myth of handgun vs AR in 5.56/.223

For some, counter intuitive, until you understand the mechanics behind it. It's amazing what 9mm will go through.

*edit: Will the Wizard. Here's more info

Just for the sake of contributing to the discussion, because I think it is very important to hit the "bad guy" and not your family, here is some good info. This is not for the sake of argument but just general learning, with the hopes of making people SAFER.

#1) Nothing will take the place of TRAINING with your firearm. A bullet that hits your target after positive identification is better than a miss due to inexperience.

#2) Knowledge of ballistics, especially "yaw" and "fragmentation". NOTE: I AM NOT A BALLISTICS EXPERT. This is just information
http://www.mlefiaa.org/files/ERPR/Te...erformance.pdf

I don't think the discussion will ever be over because there are far too many confounding factors involved.

Ending thought: train, train, train...drill in the dark after being awoken suddenly, with snap caps, get used to the maneuverability in your home, trigger/aim discipline, clearing jams etc. I don't think any pro 2A'er would disagree that a firearm in the hands of an untrained individual is extremely dangerous.
the pump is the cure
