Agreed & then some.

This is the first job I've ever had where I've not been consistently required to work 8+ (if not 10, 12, 16, +++) hours daily.
Used to put those hours in here regularly, but things have changed drastically and I'm pretty sure a monkey could do this stuff now (sad, given that mrs twat would not do as well as that monkey).

i mean there are definitely times where i actually work over 40 solid work hours in a week...but there are other times it could have been reduced down to 20. i dont like this modern work environment that just has you show up at a time, leave at a time, irrelevant on how much got done between those two points.

new job is actually against this a bit too so its not that bad. they put in longer hours monday through thursday and then they all dip out early friday since they know they wont be working anyways

same here. everyone was warning about them being rude and trying to rip off the tourists, but everybody was really nice. the only rude people we encountered while there was other tourists.

my favorite was Siena. still all the medieval buildings and stuff, its like a whole other world. they were gearing up for a yearly event they have called Palio, where they lay dirt over the brick in the town square and dudes race horses bareback (no tellit & esteban) the city has like 17 districts and the people who live their were all wearing their district's flag. it reminded me of some hunger games sht. we were there like 4 days before the event tho. just standing there and seeing the old wooden bleachers being set up I could only imagine how awesome it is to see that. I told Simon about it and he said he'd seen it once, and even though he'd been to World Cup finals and a bunch of cool sht like that, the Siena Palio was even cooler

definitely one of the coolest bucket list type things that id never even heard of before then

That's one thing I like a lot about my current job I do 4 8.5's and 1 6 on Friday, if I end up leaving here I will definitely miss that.. and will also probably be working more than 40 hours a week but at least I would be enjoying it a little more.

edit edit: that would have been awesome if your trip aligned with it without you guys knowing...so cool. we didnt know it but we ended up in Venice during their huge historical regatta. fancy boats of all kinds and such. it was our first day there and we had no clue what was going on but it was pretty cool to see it all

Geoff - reguarding the 8 hour work day etc. I think for most people in an office job where progress may not be as closley monitored or easily quantifiable it is common to have alot of down time. how ever people who work in a job where you are physically creating things, i.e. construction type work, production type of jobs, etc. most people do work a full 8 hours and at the end of the day its easy to measure how much work was done. for instance say i bid a job at a rate of 200 parts per hour. at the end of the day if i go take inventory and there isnt 1600+ parts, we gonna lose money on that job, no if they could produce 1600+ parts in 5 hours then why would i sent them home, when the inverse of sending them home would be them working an extra 3 hours and upping production further.

if there isnt enough work to keep your employees busy for 8 hours a day you probably have too many employees. its easier and less expensive to add work load to an employee so he is working 8 hours, than it is to hire another person and have each guy work half as many hours.

I think the 4 day 10 hour work week is a good option tbh. 1 whole day off beats a few extra hours in the evening, especially if you add an hour before work, and an hour after. in addition to that i hate stopping when im in the middle of something and only have maybe 30-45 minutes left on it, as im sure most people do. i also believe starting back on said task mid way is inefficient and takes longer to get reimbursed in. if a tack can be completed start to finish or at least in the fewest intervals possible it would be more efficient. this is especially true for jobs where travel is required, you can cut back on a day of travel etc.

assuming we are stick to a 40 hour workout week, i would prefer 4 10s over 5 8s.

my week is more like 4 9s and then just last as long as you can on friday and then call it a day. sometimes its 11, sometimes its 4.

Agreed, I also think when you are building something with your hands or doing a product that is easily quantifiable as you said you cant fuk off as easily.

people are just dumb as fuk man, 100% srs. New guy I trained easily takes 10x as long as the stuff I did. The problem with measuring in hours vs productivity is exactly that. Joe blows gonna get X amount of work done and the killers are just going to be able to run circles around that standard.

I would love to see more incentives to kick ass and takes names at work, brb getting paid the same if you jerk off all day or absolutely destroy your tasks just feels wrong.
