I don't think I'll ever get married and my last name isn't aesthetic sounding but I'd def require the sloot to take my last name.

This isn't even a decision to be made later on when you get married. If your GF/wife respects you and you aren't a beta she will want to take your last name no questions asked.

Never took hubby's name. I'm a successful physician, published in scientific papers, career made and known around the world in my field by my maiden name (he's a high school teacher). Plus it's cultural. French-Canadian women don't for the most part. I told him he could suck it if he tried to force it on me. Turned out he was a class act, only along the ride for a sugar mama and my money. So glad to be rid of him, and never getting married again.

It's actually only standard in the US. Most Western countries are very open to women keeping their own names, including Canada. After all, it's OUR name, and guys would be offended if we asked them to change their name. Why not respect a woman's right to chose??

I made a name for myself with my name as well. Also French-Canadian, and Scot. I'm also the very last in my family with my surname, and I'm not going to lose it as a result of a social contract. I'm taking it to the grave.

Kids will have his name, fine with that. But I intend to keep mine, as well as my money, just as he keeps his name, and his money.

I agree to an extent. As French-Canadian I would have preferred to hyphenate since it is our culture, but he's English Canadian, so I compromised on this one. I do recognize hyphenated names are a pain in the A$$!! His surname is actually really hard to spell and pronounce... Wouldn't have been a good surname for a doc regardless of my personal beliefs. My poor kids... LOL

Spouse has an odd last name...Czech...not terrible, but gets misspelled and mispronounced a lot. Said himself that my first with his last sounds like a cartoon character.

Daughter says she wishes she had my last name instead. Sorry, hon. Tried to give you a first and second that work with it.

LOL I hear you! My kids last name is a really hard Flemish last name with a heck of a lot of consonants and barely any vowels. NEVER gets pronounced right without a lecture on it.
