No, lol. He should be banned imo for peddling to imbeciles. The link in his sig says everything.

To his basement dwelling logic: A person who gets a grimey tattoo of a demon, has no personal demons whatsoever. And they're trying to attract demons in their tattoo ambitions. Just lol.

@EA: Kick rocks, and jog on computer chair gangster. Call me a bitch to my face, instead of a neg comment. I'll put the link of that in my sig.

Don't be ignorant, that's not the only thing you have claimed. You've dealt with dangerous people, studied psychology, etc etc. Hope the internet tough guy/genius thing is working out for you. It has somehow gotten you reps, I see.

Ancient tats had the same exact meaning and reasons for existing as today.

For instance, the tribe in New Zealand has "magic" tats to ward off evil. Evil spirits don't exist. So, they get tats out of anxiety and literally cover themselves with them. I'm sure the pain is like modern cutting where they're all worried about bad things happening and getting cut over and over relieves tension.

Other ancient tats were focused on "medicine" so there was no medicine and people were terrified of getting sick. So, they got tats in areas they were afraid of getting sick at. So, the tat was based on fear and provided false confidence.

Guess we shouldn't make medicine then, since it shows we are afraid of dying from illness.

Yes, because all of those things are true and I've been on the misc talking about this stuff since 2007. Literally like 90% of my posts are about mys interests and experience in my career.

I've been studying the tat phenomenon since the 90s when I worked with women who used to self-mutilate. That's when tats really took off in the US.

Are tats medicine?

There was some infomercial dude who got sued by the US government for telling people things like "wearing a white suit" is the same as medicine. That's about as effective as getting tats over your spiritual zones.

Trying looking up what I'm talking about. I'm reporting what has been studied in psychology. I agree with it.

Lol at you sarcasm detection. It was meant to point out how stupid the argument against (or for, even) tattoos is. The fact you continue spouting (mostly made up) dribble says more about you then those who choose to get tattoos... What insecurities are YOU covering up?

Really, what does "Junk science" mean to you?

As noted, I've been reading about this topic since the late 90s. There isn't just one reference because tats are seen in mental health a lot especially with a type of diagnosis. I didn't create this thread but rather showed up to answer it. I provided an overview of what I know about the topic.

Can't beat that.

Plus, I've been on the net since it was invented. No one actually reads source links, so it's a waste of my time. You look things up if you so desire.

You are trying to fit everyone into your narrow definitions. What you are presenting sounds like pop psychology, e.g psychology for the layman. I want to see sources, from credible peer-review journals. You can't just present these ridiculous theories and then claim ''it's true because I've been reading a lot since the 90's.''

My comment was more aimed at him saying ink is for paper, nuff said.

Also, like others have mentioned, you provide no references for your claims, which are quite demeaning to people who just like something you don't. The only reason I take it a bit personally is that I do have a tattoo and really enjoy them in general, and my academic achievements and tests taken would suggest there's nothing wrong with my IQ like others suggest there is with people that have tattoos. In fact, it's most likely higher than theirs. The claim probably wasn't that everyone that has a tattoo has a lower IQ, but that this is true in general. Still, there's zero evidence to support this, and people are saying this because they saw a couple of criminals that have tattoos, and that image got etched in their head to form a stereotype.

As for your other claims, you also can't say that's true in general. What does it say about a person that gets a "e^{i \pi} + 1 = 0" tattoo? And suppose your claimsweretrue and that people tattooed the traits they wanted to have. You say that this is a bad thing, but how so? If they tattoo the traits they want to have, wouldn't seeing that in the mirror every day make them work towards actually having them more than if they didn't get tattooed? How does getting a tattoo prevent them from working on the issues they might have, and how is someone that has those same issues, but doesn't get a tattoo, better off?

It's not, because if you read my posts, or just think, getting a tat is RADICAL. It's a radical move where you are mutilating yourself in favor of some picture that will last a lifetime and visually degrade rapidly.

So, EVERYONE who gets a tat makes this choice and that is pretty damn significant.

It's not "pop psychology" (can you define that? I bet you can't) it is very important because of the radical nature of getting a tat, what it means, what it means about the person, how it will affect them, and so on.

Everyone knows that like off the top of their heads. You may be unthinkingly okay with tats, but what if some girl you thought was nice had a tat of Hitler on her chest, how would that affect your opinion of her? If you say it wouldn't you're either a moron or a liar.

In fact, it should make you think about why she decided on Hitler. How it will affect your relationship with her. How it will affect her future, and much more.

Good job ignoring my last post because you got ethered. I guess you have never heard of a search engine because not only do you refuse to look up your own sources, you fail to realize he can look up pop psychology in a minute or less.

It seems to be a rule that the tat you get is actually the opposite of the type of person you really are. Tats are gotten based on anxiety. So, you're trying to advertise something about yourself that isn't true. You do not need to advertise things that are true.

For instance, a tall guy will likely never get a tat saying "I'm tall" because he knows it and so does everyone else.

So, signs of depression tats: Cheerful designs and cute things. You're trying to say "I'm happy" but if you were you wouldn't need to sell it like that.

Tough guys tats: They say that you're a coward or have lots of anxiety about being manly, and so on.

People who are actually tough are actually tough and don't think about it. People who know them know they're tough and so no tat is needed. Also, a truly mean person wouldn't want anyone knowing they are and wouldn't want to give it away.
Interesting. I got a tattoo of a cross just before I decided that all religion is bullchit. Now I'm stuck with this chit for life.

You haven't provided any reasons, you're just saying people get a tattoo to "cope" with some issue that they're having, and that they should work on that issue instead. Why can't they work on that issue AND get a tattoo?

Comparing a normal tattoo to a Hitler-tattoo on the tits is like comparing a light spanking to axe murder. You have been called out multiple times in this thread, yet you refuse to give sources. There is also an 8-page thread where you were absolutely butchered. I work with clinical psychologists in hospitals, and I am 100 % convinced that you do not hold any relevant degrees in the field.

As for a definition of pop psychology: ''psychological or pseudopsychological counseling, interpretations, concepts, terminology, etc., often simplistic or superficial, popularized by certain personalities, magazine articles, television shows, advice columns, or the like, that influence the general public.''

It's not a radical move, lol. So many people have tattoos that it's completely normal, I have two tattoos and I'm in med school, i have friends in school with full on sleeves and work with doctors that have loads of tattoos. Nobody gives a chit, 99 % of the time I don't even remember that I have one.

I agree completely, tattoos do signify a low IQ beta. Like Matt Taylor, the scientist who landed a space shuttle on a comet and who had sleeves, or Kyle Carpenter a Marine who jumped on a grenade to save his friend, who has many tattoos.

He probably had a whole crew of non-tattooed guys that did all the work for him.
