He also loves laying in the sun, and with black fur, he heats up real fast. I think what caused it was when I took him for a hike one day, and let him off leash, and he decided he wanted to go swimming in the creek along the trail. Makes me wonder if I should have got his ears cropped way back when i first got him.

Yeah this weather right now is perfect for ear infections. he got one last year around this time but that was due to wearing a cone for his neuter, + laying in the sun with it so it would heat up and get extra moist.
Vet sent me home with a bottle of ear cleaning solution to use after the treatment time is up, like once a week or every two weeks for maintenance. I probably noticed the itching start a week or two ago, but it never seemed to bother him, would just scratch his ears like once every couple hours, but real slow with this sht eating grin on his face, making these weird sex sounds. Figured I'd take him in just in case, doc said it was really mild but just enough to be clinical.
All i can say is thank god for pet insurance

Hope he gets better soon man, Dogs are too tough for theyre own good. brb balls deep in an infection or injury before they make a peep. I had to have emergency surgery for mine a few years ago when he got a fox tail stuck in his skin, and i didnt notice cause it was buried in fur, then it went all the way in and he had a huge abscess. It was disgusting and expensive lol.
