I can't stand the extravagance and pointlessness of weddings. Literally nobody cares that you're getting married but they want to be there to help you celebrate.

I don't mind throwing a party, but who gives a phuk about groomsmen and the ceremony and all that chit? For me, I plan on going to the courthouse to make it official and then throwing a nice classy party with lots of appetizers and an open bar and music, but that's it!

ITT: People complaining about being "dragged" on a vacation.

A) it's a destination wedding, meaning you're getting a reason to go to a destination with your close friends and your wife and just bullchit and forget about the world for a few days.

B) these costs aren't typical of all weddings, morons. For your standard wedding, the groomsmen will pay for their share of the Bachelor party (oh wahhh, paying money to have a fukkin blast with the boys), and probably tux rental ($160ish). If you want a hotel room the night of, there's group rates, and if not then don't get a room. Pretty simple. The bride and groom are paying ~75 a head for food and open bar on average I assume and you give them a gift of what, maybe $50? Wah.

C) lol at all the FA *******s that are complaining about having a reason to go on vacation. "B, b, but it costs money!" Yeah, so does going to Coachella, ya *******s.

Also using the engraver to engrave leather sheaths with depictions of the first mountain I've climbed with them, either an actual photograph etched on the leather, or a topographical map of the mountain etched in the leather, haven't decided on that either.

Anyways back to OP's dilemma, you should just tell your bro that you lost it big in the brexit market and you don't have the funds right now. Or tell him how much it is going to cost you, If it doesn't bother him then he isn't very understanding.

1) You said this was his 2nd marriage, so I have to ask, were you part of his wedding last time?
A) If so, were expenses to yourself (or to his previous wedding party) similar to that which is being asked now?

Basically if he pulled this kind of stunt last time and you knew about it, then that's what you signed up for when you said yes to his invitation.

If this is somehow significantly different from his previous marriage arrangements then you have every right to tell him his expectations are unreasonable and burdensome. Politely rescind your previous acceptance and tell him you will be happy to attend his wedding as a guest instead if he so wishes.

lmao wtf is with these wedding threads where the guests have to pay for everything. Other than the wedding gift I've given I have never been told or expected to pay for anything... Even my tux was paid for by the groom. It's pretty common knowledge. You're doing them a favor by being one of the groomsmen so they're supposed to treat you good.

All that you should be paying for is your damn plane ticket, and if it was me I would even cover that expense for you.

And LOLLLL at weddings that you have to pay to drink. Alcohol should be in bottles on the table. Learn from us Armenians you fokin plebs.

The only thing the guests should pay for is the present and their clothes. Everything else is covered by the weds...

das it mane. Our weddings are glorious. I have been spoiled by it and can't imagine having to attend a non-armenian wedding. BRB high class banquet hall filled with amazing food and drinks. Brb valet parking Brb 100k+ cars everywhere brb professional dj/music brb ballin outta control

BTW in almost all cases the "gift" you bring is cash usually $100 per person depending on how close you are to the groom. You usually end up with 20kish in gifts which covers a big chunk of the wedding expenses. Not even including all the jewelry and other gifts you'll receive from the families. Honey moon will usually be paid for by the best man so ggwp to you if you're a best man at an Armenian wedding.
