Miami cops shoot man with hands in air

An unarmed Miami-area man trying to calm his autistic patient was shot in the leg by police even though he had his hands up, he said Wednesday.

Police in North Miami, Fla., told WSVN-TV officers responded Monday to a 911 call reporting a man with a gun threatening to commit suicide. Yet Charles Kinsey, a behavioral therapist, told the TV station the witness and later the police may have mistook the autistic man’s toy truck for a gun.

The patient had run away from a group home in the Miami suburb. Cellphone video showed Kinsey lying on the ground and trying to calm the patient even as officers pointed their guns at them.

The cop should definitely be facing charges here, there was no reason for him to fire or have his gun drawn while the man was complying and not resisting(assuming the story is accurate). Unfortunately there are a lot of police departments that lack the training and this type of thing does happen. It is not just to black people either, despite how the media tries to make it seem.

Its not as bad as murder though in flordia this would probably be 2nd degree attempted murder since you cant say it was premeditated which carries a max sentence of 15 years. Murder in the 2nd degree is Minimum of 25 years if a firearm is used
