A black Florida man trying to calm his patient with autism was shot by a police officer Monday, despite having his hands in the air, he said Wednesday.

North Miami Assistant Police Chief Neal Cuevas said the incident happened when officers responded to a call that a man with a gun was walking around threatening to shoot himself, the Miami Herald reported. Charles Kinsey, a behavioral therapist, told WSVN-TV that the man police were searching for was his patient, who had escaped from a nearby group home, and the gun was actually a toy truck.

In cell phone video of the incident, Kinsey, 47, is seen lying on the ground with his hands in the air.

In the video, he repeatedly assures police the young man does not have a gun.

“All he has is a toy truck in his hands,” Kinsey said in the video. “I am a behavior therapist at a group home.”

Throughout the incident, Kinsey’s patient refused to comply with police, although Kinsey encouraged him to follow the officers’ directions.

“Rinaldo, please be still,” he said in the clip. “Sit down Rinaldo. Lie on your stomach.”
With all seriousness I know being law enforcement is stressful but this is grotesque that this is going on.

I thought the chit was from The Onion when I saw it on my news feed, but this is reality.

Must suck being in a situation where a retarded/psycho cop has a gun pointed at you, and you have no way to defend yourself from it other than to follow his orders which may still get you shot

Though, if you think about it, a bunch of human beings with guns(police), even though "trained", every so often one of them is going to spaz out intentionally or unintentionally. It's a problem you can improve, but to completely remove the chance of a human spazing out, I dunno brah

funny how the body cams never work or they don't have one when cops shoot people. brb kid admits that he was on pokemon go and crashed into cop car, oh my the body cam is working when they want to use evidence against a civilian.
I just want to share the knowledge I have obtained throughout my life and hopefully change someone's life.

Police should be highly trained and highly educated. Not some college/highschool dropouts or ex-military cops just coz they're ex-military.


giving anybody a gun and the power to end/**** up someones life is not a good idea. try giving anybody a job as a surgeon. yeah, not a good idea.

It's true there are officers who are poorly trained or deal with fight or flight situations terribly. But to paint a picture and generalize that all LEOs are the same, that's even more dangerous.

Highly doubt that.


I can agree that in some situations some of them should be held liable criminally. With just a quick search I found that there are close to a million LEOs in the U.S. Is there a way to completely fix the problem, probably not.
