Ran across this on another site . . . Barry's State Dept pushing to put the squeeze on FFLs by making them register for ITAR? Involves paying a $2k/year fee, puts them under tighter regulation and exposes them to potentially harsh penalties for violation? R3l3nt, is that something you guys think will impact your biz?

https://blog.princelaw.com/2016/07/2...-registration/

On Friday July 22, 2016, the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (โ€œDDTCโ€) released a letter issuing guidance on the requirement of firearm manufacturers and gunsmiths to register with DDTC under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (โ€œITARโ€).

There has been constant discussion on the internet regarding whether an individual who has obtained a federal firearms license (โ€œFFLโ€) is required to register for ITAR. Some of the Industry Operations Inspectors (โ€œIOIsโ€) have taken it upon themselves to inform Type 07 FFLs that they must register for ITAR without any guidance from DDTC. There are certain instances where an FFL does not need to register for ITAR.

(a) Any person who engages in the United States in the business of manufacturing or exporting or temporarily importing defense articles, or furnishing defense services, is required to register with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls under 122.2. For the purpose of this subchapter, engaging in such a business requires only one occasion of manufacturing or exporting or temporarily importing a defense article or furnishing a defense service. A manufacturer who does not engage in exporting must nevertheless register.

DDTC states that if you are engaged in any of the following you are required to register for under ITAR.

a) Use of any special tooling or equipment upgrading in order to improve the capability of assembled or repaired firearms;

b) Modifications to a firearm that change round capacity;

c) The production of firearm parts (including, but not limited to, barrels, stocks, cylinders, breech mechanisms, triggers, silencers, or suppressors);

d) The systemized production of ammunition, including the automated loading or reloading of ammunition;

e) The machining or cutting of firearms, e.g., threading of muzzles or muzzle brake installation requiring machining, that results in an enhanced capability;

f) Rechambering firearms through machining, cutting, or drilling;

g) Chambering, cutting, or threading barrel blanks; and

h) Blueprinting firearms by machining the barrel.

Pretty much all those things currently fall under general gunsmithing. Which is correct. Regardless, we're about to become a manufacturer and will be required to register and pay the $2k/ yr anyway, so fuk Barry.

Edit: So he's trying to make thousands ofgeneral gunsmithsacross the country get a manufacturers type 7 FFL and pay the ITAR $2k/yr fee. Asinine.

That's a really good point...but let's do something that's not a Glock. I'll trade in my USP and move into a VP9. We could all do VP9s. Excellent.

But really, Cox has a point. We'll mostly be using the ARs to defeat the enemy. Handguns will just be a back up. We all have PMAGs.

That's basically how I look at it. I know Hillary will be a net really bad outcome. I guess to one end we don't know what she will do either, because she's been caught in countless lies and covers at this point, but we know she will continue doing the same.

Trump is just out there. I don't know if even he knows what he will do. But I guess that gives us a 50/50 chance at accidentally doing something right, vs 100% chance of Hillary doing practically everything wrong. Normally I'd be more likely to vote 3rd party, but this year whatever is most likely to keep Hillary out of office is my priority. And the reality of the situation is that means voting Trump.

This.

Worst case with Trump is that he doesn't do what he says he'll do.
Worst case with Clinton is that she does do what she says she'll do.
