I eventually had to take a step back and move back home. Decided to go back to school for programming/IT. I do enjoy learning programming but the main goal for me is to open a gym in the future to help former fatties like myself to get on the right track, especially younger kids.

But realistically I need a solid income to start that, so I'm learning programming.
There's a silver lining in everything brother, you just gotta see it and then attack your goals everyday until you get where you want to be.

Here's how I feel in general about life today:

We're further from our natural cores than ever. There's nothing but pain and suffering in today's world. So much unhappiness. Self created. I'm surprised the Earth still turns considering how bad we've botched this place.

I think your life isn't about the titles. It isn't about making money. It isn't about the hot trophy life. Your life is about a moment to come. It is inevitable; we can't stop it from coming. Right now, we have the most valuable asset on our side, time, but it's running out. So put the emphasis on you internally on what you wanna be for who you are; that is a fire that will never burn out. So believe in yourself. Follow what your talents are, what you're passionate about, what you really love to do. Follow that course. Break the ****ing mold.

Stop being a servant, start being the master.
Some good chit in here. Would reply to all of you, but that seems to be too time consuming right now. I'll just kind of sum up some of it and then reply.

I see society as becoming so self absorbed and blind. And by that I mean, you are judged by how you portray yourselves to others, not who you really are. For example, I know my dad's side of the family thinks I am a loser kind of. I worked at a warehouse for 2 years post graduation and didn't have a lot of direction. Now I am putting my efforts towards personal training, athletics, stuff I love to do, but in their minds...it is all about money. That whole side of my family has a lot of money. One is a nurse practitioner that married in to the owner of a large and worldwide known food company. Another one is making 130k working for groupon. Etc, etc. But I realized something....

All their lives seem great and fantastic on paper, but I can really tell that they are miserable. My dad kind of keeps me on the in with them. They have nice things, but that comes at a price with working 60 hours a week doing something they hate. Every time I see them they are all stressed out of their minds, look miserable, and complain when you ask them how everything is going.

In my eyes, people need to stop focusing on making themselves look good and happy, and actually be happy. Find out what you love to do and do it. Spend a majority of your life doing what you love to do. But I also think it is about balance. Didn't steve jobs say, on his deathbed, that he wished he spent more time with relationships and people he loved? I think true happiness is not only doing what you love to do, but also being around people you love and are friends with, being healthy, and finding someone to love (kids, wife, etc).

I think life is about finding balance and fulfilling all aspects of life, which is easier said than done. sometimes certain things need to be pushed away to accomplish other things.

Get yourself a right education "choose with both passion and brain", surround yourself only with right people "no losers and drag down negative *******s", try to secure yourself a good job, take care yourself and your body, have a healthy reletionship with your familly. Belive in yourself "no matter how cliche that sounds".

That's what it means to keep the life on the right track for me, I only wish I knew that before the age of 25.

I do think so. It's kind of like the "vacation fallacy," where we think more fondly of past events than we did when we were in the events themselves. Consider Vietnam, Cold War, Cuban Missile Crisis, Civil Rights, etc. There was a lot to be pessimistic and cynical about; many believed the world was literally going to end by mutual destruction.

People just keep moving forward.

always be honest to everyone. if you arent, you will cause suffering to yourself and others. i never understood just how important this is until the last few years. we all wear these masks and we end up not fooling anyone because everyones goal is to see under everyone elses mask. its such a breath of fresh air when you meet someone not pretending. the only way i think someone can do this is by accepting themselves, which in turn allows them to accept everyone they meet. when you meet an honest person, youre attracted to their compassion.

I think my main purpose is to find as much happiness as I can in this life, accomplish a lot, and die with lots of experiences and as little regret as possible. There's so many things I want to do and be good at but there's only a certain amount of time and energy that I can dedicate myself to. I just don't want to live a ordinary life.

Das it mane. Completely agree. I am just really getting into putting full effort towards my career and making something of what I love to do. Focusing on myself right now and making sure I get financially stable to move out of the house comfortably by the end of the year, and then will start spreading focus on all other aspects like friends, finding a gf, etc.

People's lives are controlled by fear. Control the fear, and you control your life. You spend all your energy trying to prevent inevitable adverse states that can and will happen to you when you could be learning how to cope and deal and learn to move on from it. I am happy because I know unhappiness is temporary and I will always do my best in managing my problems
Living a happy life

THIS is the core of everything. Very nicely put.

Finding ONE true person, a real person is damn near impossible.

Honesty and being credible, living by your word is unheard of in today's society.
Thus let me live, unseen, unknown;
Thus unlamented let me die;
Steal from the world, and not a stone
Tell where I lie.

I've found in my life, so far, that pain and being uncomfortable are some of the best times you can have in life. Nearly eveytime I've done something scary, I also feel like I can conquer the world and I change for the better, then that "high" goes away. I'm realizing that monotony and habits are very comfortable and this prevents us from taking on things that make us uncomfortable and make us grow stronger. Lately my life has been a struggle of breaking the monotony of everyday life and facing my biggest fears and limitations, or settling for the temporary comfort of routine (which usually stagnates my growth as a person or makes me become weaker in some way).

I don't even know if this is relevant to the OP but fuk it

It's interesting that you guys measure life's happiness and success on external things (career, education, wealth).

By misc standards, I've "made it." I rather not give details. But that doesn't make you happy. Nor does it give you peace.

Extremely relevant. Literally was going through the same thing. Then I read the power of habit and my whole view on life changed. This may help you. I got to a point where I kept sleeping in too late, would put an alarm on and end up just shutting it off and going back to sleep. Couldn't follow through with anything for some reason (a couple month period).

Well the first step is to just pick one thing and do it every day no matter what. So I picked making my bed. After a week I woke up at 7am everyday. After a while Habits were starting to form, and I realized that I had more time in the morning to do stuff instead of just laying around and eating trying to stay awake. So then I started filling that time with stretches and exercises working on my scoliosis. etc.

Start with one small habit, and boom you start creating new habits. It compounds. Next thing you know You get this feeling of you can accomplish anything and you keep pushing boundries and moving forward and gets you away from the comfort zone of lazy and bad habits.

Idk I think it correlates to what you are saying a lot. But you may have already known all this lol

man, i can relate to this. I loathe family reunions (actually have one tomorrow...can't wait smh ) because its always the same thing: "So, Rushem, what's new with you?" "uhh you know just doing my own thing". No one understands the way I think. They think that because I don't have a job I'm a bum and a loser. But in reality I'm 20 years old and I am trying to grow an online business so I don't end up like them; clocking in and out depressed all day. This is literally the last summer I've got free before I'll be forced into finding a job and once you end up in the rat race it is 10x harder to escape. It's just so hard to explain to...anyone, really, even my parents, because they all have traditional jobs. If I were to say to their faces "oh yeah I'm trying to make money without being tied down to a job" they'd look at me like im an arrogant arsehole. It's not even that I look down on having a job, its just that 90% of people don't enjoy theirs and I don't wanna be part of that...

so I guess being the 'son/brother/nephew/cousin that is a lazy bum' is what I'll have to be in their eyes...that is, until I make it. I find it funny that no one, and I mean no one truly believes in you until you actually make it. Not your girl, siblings, parents, family, friends...they may believe you can, but not that you will. But by then, I won't need them to understand, lmao. Paradox. Also by 'making it' I'm not talking a certain dollar amount per year...I just want freedom.

long rant but hey i feel a bit better now lol.

This is very true, and don't forget to be kind to yourself. If you saw someone fail you would (hopefully) support his or her effort and wish him/her better luck next time. But it's so easy to be pessimistic about someone's own efforts.

I feel like I'm in a good spot in life but I feel stuck and afraid to change. Life is passing me by. I'm somehow 32 already, wtf. I don't want to be one of those old fuks who goes to the same coffee shop everyday to bitch about politics with other grumps.

I'd love to quit my job to get an education and have more time with my girl, but I don't want to fail. I already have full benefits, 6 figures and all that chit. That said, it is constant travel and I've done it for so long it's just not intriguing or challenging anymore.

I grew up broke as fuk, wearing my older cousins old clothes and stuff. I never want to risk being cold and hungry again. That said, I could easily get my job back if things don't pan out.

I finally found an awesome chick that doesn't have or want kids and loves to travel so I kinda want to see where that goes. Gotta get that work/life balance in check.

Cliffs: I feel like it's time to make some changes and enjoy life more but I'm afraid to take the first step.

And yeah, dear diary. Ha

This is good chit too.

I started doing things like this at 25-26 when I wanted to change my life. Helped so much giving myself small little things. I remember one of them was really dumb, I'd tie my shoes everyday instead of leaving them just loose enough to slip into, also made the bed daily, and cooked breakfast instead of stopping at the corner store.

Really does a lot of good over time when you start stacking stuff on.

I don't think there is any point. There are purposes, but no point. Every day my purpose can change, and I feel there are an infinite number of paths I could have taken that both completely diverge and bring me to this exact moment. None of it really means all that much. Sometimes I think about all of the things I could have done with my life - become a surgeon, a struggling musician, an accountant. I could still start to do all of those things now at the age of 25, which blows my mind because at the age of 18 I didn't know or care about any of this. Eventually, all of these career decisions only distract us from our own mortality, if only for a moment. Thats why I love sex, and boxing, and lifting weights, and eating, and drinking. Its one moment im not thinking about death, or my parents dying, or my brother dying, or finding the only girl ill ever love only have her leave me.

Sometimes I think life has a beautifully complex meaning and love inexorably connects all of us through this common thread that can't be broken. Then anecdotal evidence shocks me back to reality where sometimes things are horrible then they only get worse. Then you think its not fair and you look around and people are far worse off then you. Then your situation only gets worse and your drowning among a sea of **** where the only solace you can take is that your sinking slower than everybody else.

Birth is said to be one of the most traumatic experiences we will endure in our lifetimes. Which, strictly speaking, is to say that life is a struggle from infancy to death. There are times when people and places surprise me and bring me out of these realizations. Those poignant moments are enough for me, even if I only find them sparingly and when im not looking. I hope it happens to me again soon.

And to you.

Reality is a trap that we are in.

It's what I'm stuck on as well. Try to wake up early to study before work, but end up just snoozing because I think "what difference does studying actually make? I don't actually want what I'm studying for anyway". It's a difficult loop to break.

Yea dude just have to force yourself. It boils down to discipline. Listen to this video by stan efferding. It hints on that with mike o'hearn.

And yea scoliosis is really bothering me lately. It is getting better though. Started sleeping on the floor too, and my back pain is gone. Literally the first 4 hours of doing it my back and hip pain went away. My mind was blown. Mainly from the slight kyphosis I have too

Ha

Really does a lot of good over time when you start stacking stuff on.
Yea life only happens once. Sometimes the best of life is pushing your comfort zones and taking risks. I quit my stable warehouse job to go to california. Moved there with just under 12k and moved in with a fam. No idea what I was going to do but I wanted to try it out and get into the fitness industry there. Well didn't like it in terms of the traffic/amount of people/cost of living, so I moved back home. But I learned a lot about myself. I broke the comfort and took a risk. Would have always wondered what if if I never tried it out.

So I say go for it man. You only live once, you have a back up, take a risk.

Very well put. I guess I really do agree with the fact that there isn't really a purpose/point for life, but we create our own purpose(s). Very well said. Thanks for the input.

Yea what I did was set my alarm across my room so it makes me get up and turn it off. Then I force myself upstairs and deal with the uncomfortable part of the morning instead of hopping back into my comfy bed. But now that I sleep on the floor, It has gotten easier lmao

Think about what would happen if you don't study. I understand being unmotivated about doing something you don't feel like doing, but you got to keep that end goal in sight. The studying, and even the job you'll get from the degree is just temporary. Especially if you're making plans right now on the next steps. It's more of an obstacle than anything. Use what you're doing now to gain all the experience you need so when you're in a more favorable position, it's cake.

That discipline will carry you way beyond anything else that comes your way.

EDIT:
I watched that video yesterday. Stan speaks the truth. Gotta put in the work consistently.

For me the point of life is to become to biggest slayer ever before I hit 25 years. If I fail I will suicide. If not, I will enjoy being the biggest slayer to ever live.
