No, although I dont have kids yet so it is easy to say from where I am standing.

I certainly dont intend to make it a mainstay in my parenting.

fukkin lol at spanking kids, if you're not doing a flying twist kick to the face you're doing it wrong, enjoy being conquered by your children/10

once my 1 year old cousin was acting a fool and bitching out his parents, they called me over because they were terrified, so I grabbed that little turd nugget and body slammed the fuk out of him and then hit him with the massive elbow drop for the 3-count, he became a little gentleman after that day.

Your comment in the other thread is actually what sparked my interest. I was never abused and have a very loving family and all that, but my dad beat the sht out of me and my brothers when we fukked up. None of us resent him in any way for it and we all are functioning and contributing members of society. I feel like mental abuse can be worse in my instances than physical abuse, but that's a whole other subject.

A good parent will figure out the best way to get through to the kid, and if a flick on the fingers or a smack on the leg does the trick then so be it.
That is true. At the same time though any developmental impact corporal punishment has on your child might not manifest itself until later in life. Why take the risk? What does spanking accomplish that you can't find another way to your point across? There's always another way.

And again spanking almost always comes when a parent is at their wit's end and finally gives up and resorts to spanking. It's impulsive and in those moments you're not thinking about any psychological harm you may be causing.

I got my ass beat as a kid and I am now more respectful than pretty much everyone else I know. My siblings are too. We were all very well behaved too. There's a difference in beating your child vs disciplining them and explaining what they did wrong and how to avoid it. My parents did it the right way and I plan on doing the same.

If my future kid fuks up, I'm going to wear his ass out and make sure he knows why I'm doing it.

srs though, I understand there are some studies that do say things of that nature showing that there is not much positive effect, but also there are studies that prove otherwise, and the key factor behind my thinking (and my parents thinking) is the biblical "spare the rod, spoil the child."
The few things I've seen on spanking being a positive come from Christian conservatives. I don't want to get political at all about this, but since when is centuries old religion the best guidebook for raising children? It's fundamentally flawed and never took into account the acute impact even small things have on a child's development. You think 1000 years ago they considered the long term effects of spanking little Jedediah? IMO, corporal punishment only serves the parent. It calms the anger, and feels like something concrete. The kid's being a brat? If I spank them they shut the hell up, it's instant. Why not come at it from a different angle. That's your job as a parent.

I see what you're saying, but my parents fully explained why they were punishing me and why this was happeningto me. And they also said they're doing this because they loved me, which sounds cheesy as hell, but it was never an immediate retribution. It being slightly delayed showed that it was thought out and there was a purpose behind it rather than taking out anger.

I do see that side sort of too, if it's meted out thoughtfully and with some level of understanding then I get it. I was spanked and got a ruler on my hand a few times and I don't feel like I suffered from it. I'm all for parents being able to do what they want within reason. But I keep coming back to - why take the risk if there's a chance it could affect your child's fragile psyche at such an early age?

Im pretty normal haha not like the typical miscers on here but I have a lot of insecurities that can be related to the way I grew up I think. When I have kids I just hope they can be confident in themselves without being brats

I have a punishment radar, depends on what they did, how bad the kid is, etc.

People who don't believe in spanking either never had to take care of a kid, or only seen examples where dumb parents spank their kids over any little thing.

I babysit both my nieces and my nephew pretty often, and I understand when I simply just need to say, "don't do that", how far I need to raise my voice, or when they need a smack on the hand or butt.

It can also be different experiences for people depending on what kind of kids you have, some kids are naturally disobedient, so time outs don't work as a punishment, while some kids can be controlled verbally. It depends on many things, but no I am not against spanking.

No. I won't teach my children to be peaceful by showing them violence.

Maybe just a few times
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Look i dont regularly spank.

but its the best way to show and explain why behaviors such as whacking with hard object, smacking, pulling hair etc are wrong and why. "ow that hurts, dont do that" they do it again "that hurts If you do it again you are getting a spanking which hurts also" they do it again "Ok heres a spanking", dont actually damage or hurt but a fast smack on the ass enough to make them feel some quick pain and cry. tell them they got spanked because they were hurting people just like that and its bad to hurt people and "you didnt like being hurt either right?" questions etc...

its a process to help them understand physical interactions with others. if they have developed behaviors where they think somthing like "smacking people in the head with a broomstick" is funny .

but keep posting the same bullchit study with an extremely small study group when compared to the 80% of the worlds population its trying to label and lecture.

Read a book and do some research. Never has corporal punishment proven to produce positive results.

I mean, on average, and not looking at studies and statistics, real world experience, kids who were disciplined by the hand WITHOUT being abused tend to be pretty well adjusted and fairly what they call normal adults. When you beat a kid to a bloody pulp, he/she turns into a promiscuous bully with a complex and alcohol/drug addictions. When you give them constant praise and only a "stern talking to", they tend to have a different complex and hence you have those mentally fukked kids who shoot up schools and put mirrors on their shoes etc...

There's a healthy medium. Some kids you will never have to even raise your voice at, others you will have to take everything away from. Still others will not learn until they feel. On average, from real world experience, kids who have a healthy amount of discipline do not turn into psychopaths.

Maybe. Not sure right now.

I had a dog in the past. I would spank him when he would pee on the floor or act up. He kept doing it.

I got a new dog now. I decided I am not doing the spanking thing, at all. No physical discipline. Just loving him and putting him in the crate when he acts up. He will get yelled at though, with "No!"

It's interesting. He doesn't act up. He's even more active and fidgety than our last dog who was calmed manner. Sure I don't trust him off a leash. But If I raise my voice. He typically stops.

So I won't spank my children if I don't have too. I will yell and put my foot down. Just depends I guess. I just know that they are not going to be throwing a fit in the store and think I will get them their candy.

I had a brother and sister. I have a Hispanic that yells. I also listen to death metal to relax.

Your yelling and screaming will just make me smile and laugh. Because you are not going to win anything with tears. Hmmmm. I may even run my finger over your tears and drink them in front of you and laugh in your face.

I think me and my brother are some of the most positive outlooks to keep my 11yo niece from becoming mentally ill in the future, srs. She was a bad kid at the start, but she's changed a lot, and her mother seems to be abusive about her changing, now has this leash on her, won't allow her to play video games or nothing at home. And the only time she really gets to have fun is when she comes to visit her uncles (me and bro). Kids need both discipline and that reassurance, an imbalance is what makes them fukked up.

You'd be surprised how something that seems so little to you can have long lasting effects on a child. For example, my sister decided to do some hypnosis therapy to help with some anxiety issues. The therapist was able to trace it back to 3 events in her childhood. One, getting her name on the board in school. Two, when a few neighbor boys threw a cat into a pool. And the 3rd was a bully in school. These are things most adults think kids would grow out of but according to her therapist, they were very traumatic to her and were part of her years of anxiety. So if you think that's bad, imagine the number one role model in your life who is supposed to protect you cause physical harm. Betamax said it perfect. Spanking is always the result of the adult losing their cool. There are always better ways to deal with poor behavior.
Many studies have shown that physical punishment โ€” including spanking, hitting and other means of causing pain โ€” can lead to increased aggression, antisocial behavior, physical injury and mental health problems for children.

Everybody could link most of their social problems as adults to something that happened early on in childhood. Some things affect others differently. I'm one of the biggest advocates for taking care of mental health issues as I have a few myself and have been in and out of therapy for them, but can you really say that some people don't just need a swift kick in the ass to set them straight?

My family is a perfect example:
-older sister was rebellious because of family lies, dad was abusive toward her, she ran away multiple times, had to live on her own. Currently has a child with one guy, and is married to another (happily) and expecting her second. They have similar personalities in that they are both hot headed, but two of the coolest and most down to earth people you will ever meet. Complete strangers give them the "I feel like I've known you for years".

Next older sister:
-always studious and excelling in school, but had a smart ass mouth on her. Never got hit beside the occasional slap on the mouth for being disrespectful. Shes the most well adjusted by society's terms with crazy drive, 28, been married for around 5 years to a cool ass dude, been working since she was 16, never been in trouble with the law etc.

Me:
-got beat the most frequently with light to moderate to severely, never cared about school, only good in one or two subjects (English and literature), worked odd jobs since I was 15, had social anxiety since I was a kid, became depressed in late teens, afraid of my own shadow, insecure to the bone, etc... Even through that, I still have not been unemployed for more than 3 months at a time, and everywhere I work I get promotions and/or raises. They might not like my personality, but they can't deny that I'm a hard worker.

Younger sister:
-got a slap maybe once or twice in her life, was the golden child and was loved for her beauty, average student but no drive at all, been lazy since she was a kid, married a ******* when she was 20 after 3 weeks of knowing him, currently completely broke and wiped out her settlement money (over 100k) in the span of 2 years, has 2 kids with the same ******* that treats her like dog chit, has no self esteem.

Youngest sister:
-never gotten hit but knows my parents have been extremely poor the past 10 years or so, wants everything given to her, says she will apply to jobs but never does, posts dumb selfies on Instagram, but she is very smart, just no drive and unwilling to work for what she wants.

We all have very different personalities. They used the wrong punishment and reinforcements on 4/5 of us, and so we are all screwed up in some way. The best functioning one out of all of us is the older one who got hit when she was really pushing the line. She has crazy work ethic, is extremely empathetic, married for years, adapts to new environments easily etc... The rest of us are just screwed up in different ways according to the extreme ways we were dealt with.

Spanking is not always the result of a parent losing their cool. I know you've seen those kids who throw murderous tantrums in public because they can't have a piece of chocolate, and all the rest of us have to stand by and watch as the kid is dragging itself through the aisles while the mother just goes "oh stop it. No tv when we get home". It makes the kid rage even more and we all have to sit through it while she tries to teach the kid a lesson. Here's how it should go: he/she starts throwing a tantrum, you give them the eye, and they shut right up and behave like a human being. They know there's a nice whack coming in a few minutes if they don't stop.

You can't treat every kid like they are the same, they aren't. Some kids need a slap just like some adults need to get their asses kicked so it humbles them a little, and they know there are consequences for their actions. Some people just learn things differently.

Never, physical punishment is definitely a thing of the past that needs to stay in the past. Not everyone can be a perfect parent all the time but for me hitting your own children is completely weak. There are no positive outcomes for the child idc how many behavioral observations you've made. And there are always better methods.

I honestly wonder if the way kids are turning out today is due to a decrease in spanking/physical discipline for kids who act up, or just the way society/trends are changing, which ends up affecting the youth.

I get that many people have positive experiences with spanking, and I was spanked as a child, but sometimes I wonder if not being spanked as a child would have made any difference in where I would be today, or if it was irrelevant all along.

There are too many factors in raising a child to just say spanking will make your child turn out horribly. You could not spank your child, but tell them how much of a piece of chit they are every single day for no reason other than you want to. You could beat the chit out of them every single day, but also give them anything they ask you for. Both scenarios will more likely than not give you a similar outcome: an adult with some severe issues. A healthy approach with physical contact as the last resort is the best way in my opinion.

Violence in society or family is never the answer, spanking your children only perpetuates the violence in society.
