How do you guys not feel jealous towards people with better lives than you?

IDK if this makes sense at all or if anyone can relate but I'll try. So my dream was to play pro soccer, but I wasn't good enough. That's all I wanted to do in my life, every day I wish I was doing that.

Fast forward to today, my roommates brother plays for the Seattle Sounders in the MLS. He's living the dream, we watch his games on TV, I get a glimpse into his life and I'm so fuking jealous. While I work a job I don't care about, make average money, struggled to date fat chicks etc this guy's life is 10000x better and every time my roommate mentions his brother I just get so jealous and feel like s*it about my own life.


How do you people not feel the same? How do you not feel jealous towards all of the people living the lives you can only dream about but want?

I played or trained almost every single day until I was 21. Not sure what your point is, most people aren't good enough to play pro soccer but that it's still s*itty to see people doing it while I rot

Yea I know you shouldn't compare yourself, but that's kind of the point. If you dare do it it's almost impossible not feel jealous and depressed.

Motivation to get better at what? I'm never going to make it in soccer at this point lol

No point in getting jelly, might not be in the 1% but I bet pretty much every single miscer is in the top 5% of luckiest people in the world whilst growing up.

I can't stand people like you. There's a name for it: haters. Just get over it and live your own life, there will always be somebody that's better than someone else on one level or another. Nothing you can do about it, and people can feel your negative energy in group settings, so get over that chit.

I don't get envious or jealous, but instead I'm happy for them that they made it. But that's just me.

I think we all get a little jelly at times. The main thing is to try not to worry about what anyone else has and be happy with what you have or be working towards what else you want (when possible).

There's always going to be people better off, but on the same note there's always going to be people worse off. Try and appreciate what you do have.

One revelation for me was to quit ********, secondly i would say to try to find a new goal & work towards it.

******** is bulls*it but it does help me keep tabs on friends so I have it. Just seems like those are all diversions......like I could make up a new goal but the root issue is still there man.

Guaranteed that guy is thinking similar things about someone else. he probably has it even worse as he is a professional athlete and lives in competitive that world. Of course, he isnt wishing he had a cubicle and dated fat chicks but you know what I am getting at.

Sure I guess deep down inside people get jealous of other people's success. Happens to the best of us. Some choose to dwell on it while others choose to use it as a source of motivation and inspiration to do better in their own lives.

find another dream and chase that.

I wanted to play for man united all my life, Rashford is like two years younger then me and on millions a year but I don't feel jealous, obviously I'd like to be in his situation but I know i'm not good enough, barely good enough for semi pro in England.

So i found another dream, and am currently chasing that.

You don't ever think of the negatives either. Obviously it's a comfortable life but it's hard for athletes to have a normal social life, they can't party and 95% of girls they meet are after their money and status.

Ok the difference between you and a winner is that they face the issue, deal with it emotionally and move forward with things that CAN DO.
Do you think your room mate's brother life is perfect? That there is not one thing he is envious of? Everyone feels that way, its just a matter of how you deal with it.

Why not start a soccer gym in your local town. Take kids in and teach them the proper way to play the game. Maybe one day one of those kids makes it to the big league. That would probably be pretty gratifying.

hahah this this this, I've played with guys that are currently playing with MLS underage sides, couldn't get a look in in europe, the lads were rejected by league 2 english sides. but might very well get a pro contracts in MLS
