Hanging out with friends who are fun to be around helps a lot.

I personally have TFW no gf most strongly whenever my social life isn't doing too well. At the core it's about loneliness and a need for companionship. Friends can accomplish that, but I guess it's easier to conceptualize a girl fulfilling those needs because it's just one person and it's easier to form a close bond right away with a chick.

Guys are kind of screwed in that regard because they don't seem to make friends as easily as girls do, especially later in life. If a girl leaves a relationship, she has a whole support system waiting for her and endless shoulders to cry on in a way that a man doesn't.
