Sidewalks = Cycletracks. There are many differences.

If you want to talk about a waste of money, look to your nearest interstate highway project

I give up. You clearly know the point I'm making. But cyclists can stay on the road for all I care. I'll just keep blasting my air horn at them for getting in my way and enjoy watching you ****s chit your pants.

I think you are so close-minded bc you've never been in a situation where you had to walk or bike to work. What if your wife or best friend was an avid cyclist? Do you just automatically hate them? It's very strange to hate something like this, let alone dislike it. Find a middle ground bc the world has enough hate.

Ok, that's cool. I've lived in Cleveland and West Virginia where there are absolutely no sidewalks in some cities. People literally walk on people's front lawns if they can't drive. Cyclists there have no choice but to use the road. Unless they all purchase full-suspension mountain bikes so they can ride on people's lawns... And you know that will never happen. But I live in Cali now and the law states that if there are bike lanes provided, you cannot bike on the sidewalks. But you rarely see that enforced. So yea, you will always see cyclists on the road unless they make completely separate paths alongside the roads "for cars".

You're right. I have never been in that situation. I'm not poor and I have a license.

And my friend or wife would never be a biker. I wouldn't have associated with them enough to end up befriending or marrying a person who rides a bicycle

If cities wise up and start creating/enforcing dedicated bike lanes, then bikes would be less disruptive to motor traffic, and it would be safer to commute by bike. This would encourage more bike riding, which would relieve traffic, free up parking spaces, and reduce demand for gas and oil. Motorists need to realize that MOTOR VEHICLES, and not bikes, contribute the most to traffic on the roads, not being able to find a parking space, etc.

Cyclists need to realize that not everyone can commute by bike due to distance/time constraints, disability or physical limitations, or lack of safe route options.

TL;DR: you're all *******s; recognize the pros and cons of both options.

I am a mountain biker and a car driver, so I can identify with both.

This is not a bikers vs cars thing.

The reality is, there are dumb a-holes on the road who drive cars, ride bikes and even walk. (ever see those idiots walking on the road when there is a sidewalk?)

There are a-hole drivers who don't consider cyclists.

There are a-hole cyclists who take up whole lanes.

Honestly, as a bike rider myself, I always use the sidewalk over the road if there is one. Where I live there are few pedestrians, so the sidewalk is usually clear. And riding on the road in this day and age, when half the drivers are staring at their smart phones is way too risky and dangerous. You have to be a stupid a-hole to put your own safety at risk over some principle of right of way.

And when I see cyclists on a busy road when there is a sidewalk, I think stubborn idiot.

It's like those moron drivers who go the speed limit in the fast lane on the freeway.

Same stubborn mentality.

Which brings me to the realization that most of the world's conflicts really come down to the fact that the world is full of stupid, stubborn a-holes.

A lot of bikers (motor bikers too) are just looking for problems on the road. If you drive the speed limit and are courteous on the road, you won't have any problems.

If you go out looking for trouble, you will find trouble.

My bike cost 80 Euros. I own a diesel BMW (yep I'm a car driving scum bag too bishes!). I need my car to drive to my customers, but ride my bike in the city. I hope that clears up the "social elitist superiority" thing?

I would point out that I lived for years in Western Canada where a car is almost essential. The state of the roads and the reality of the weather is prohibitive to cycling. Somewhere like Netherlands is the opposite (small, flat, high population density, mild climate, etc.). It is easy to sit in a progressive, flat, mild climate in Europe and promote cycling... I'm aware of that.

I'm just trying to point out that while we freak out about terrorism and gun violence we're primarily dying in cars. We are literally dying in our cars, but love them too much to even consider criticizing their place in our lives. People want to have a repetitive cyclist vs. cars debate in here and I just want to point out that cars are an utter plague on our existence. Getting rid of them, reducing them, replacing them, or generally just moving on past this 70 year old model of human transportation will be wonderful.

If you ride on the sidewalk, on campus or downtown, you piss everyone off on the sidewalk, weaving in and out of people. Running into people with no care. Causing everyone on the sidewalk to be on watch for a bike.

If you ride on the street, you're equally annoying. Most of the time you ride in the middle of the road and pretend you're a car, making it impossible for anyone to pass you (Because of course you can't do 45mph). I can kinda understand that, until I watch you guys pick and chose which traffic laws you want to obey. I see you guys running red, making left hand turns on red, rights on red without stopping at all etc... You would think a cyclist would have more common sense to be safe when he is dealing with objects that if hit him, would smear them on the road.

I will say the 1% who take cycling very seriously are fine. The problem is the other 99% need to stop riding.

Bottom line is there is NO reason to be riding a bike on roads/street/sidewalks. They should only be used for recreation purposes, races, parks, etc.. Unless you live in a developing country, a bike is no longer acceptable transportation. We have cheap cars (Brand new cars for 10k) and bus/rail systems that do everything a bike can, better, faster and best yet, do not annoy everyone.
Have you ever heard about the Netherlands? They have cycling lanes.

And you know Germany and Belgium and Finland and Denmark? Well they have WAY less cycling lanes...and people still cycle to work.

I dont see a problem with this as long as they stay near the side of the road or move over when cars come by so they can pass easily instead of cruising down the middle of the road going half the speed limit

Idiotic comment

Bikes ride in the center so that drivers CHANGE LANES to go around. It's not safe for a motorist to pass a bicycle without changing lanes. Bikes need at least 3' of clearance for safety, but most motorists don't care about that

Lmao this. I don't like slow bikers as much as the next guy, but seriously stop bending the rules regarding the speed limit. That's the FASTEST speed you can legally go, no exceptions.

There may be certain situations where going slower than the speed limit is necessary, such as traffic or bad weather.

Im both an avid biker and an avid driver, love doing both. Not a "cyclist" though. I agree there are so many cyclists that think THEY own the road, that rules dont apply to them, etc. Cyclists that ride like 4-5 next to each other are the worst.

When I bike I stick to as far right in the road as I physically can, always pay attention, etc. If there are a line of cars behind me trying to pass on a narrow road that does not seem 100% safe, I pull over and wait.

Too many idiots on the road on both sides, SRS.

Actually you are the moran. There have been a number of studies which show that difference in the average rate of speed is WAY more dangerous than increasing speed. In other words if 4 cars are doing the speed limit, or even 10 over, its the potato doing 10 below the speed limit that is the most dangerous.

On a 4 lane major road the bastard was riding in the middle of the right lane. Like he was a fng motorcycle.

We get to a stop light and he's still in the phukin middle. I want to turn right. I honk so he can move over. He ignores me so I decide to go around him.

Ad I do so the phuck edges out in the intersection purposely blocking my way. I try again and he edges further. I get out and say hey man I want to turn right.

Motherphuker yells I'm entitled to the whole lane. I almost went and stomped all the spokes on his wheels.
