Starting out I got stuck with 95 lbs before. It was mostly because of bad form; I never used to plant my feet firmly on the ground while benching and that took out a lot of power.

Bench 3x per week or more. Add in heavy incline barbell/dumbells and weighted dips if you haven't already.

I've only been benching twice a week, in accordance to the stronglifts 5x5 program.

Lifts:
Squat: 460x1
Bench: 400x1
Deadlift: 575x1
OHP: 250x2
Weight: 180 lbs.

Have to ask yourself, if you always use a spotter, are you relying on him to save you?

What if you never had a spotter and couldnt bail? You would have lifted that weight.

I wasn't insulting you, I was just saying that you weighing more than me and lifting longer than me obviously means your bench is going to be higher.

had my cheekbone pinned under the bar before. Been benching in a power rack since then. Zero phucks given if people think it's just for squatting.

I dropped 155 on myself when I first started training.

It's part of the journey fella.

Also on bench i'd do 5 lb jumps as opposed to the traditional 10 lb jumps (save those for the DL)

he doesn't mean that cupcake

he wants you to roll the bar from your chest to your crotch, then literally do a sit up because the bar will now be resting on the bench pad, and you can stand up

I had this situation myself. I was to embarrassed to ask someone for help so I rolled it off my chest and onto my groin....and I heard a crack.

I haven't been the same ever since....

LOL,

I failed last week on Bench. I usually am able to save myself near failure by dropping it on the lower rack on the bench but I just rolled it down to my hips and sat up. One of the trainer's watched me fail, didn't even make a move in my direction. I laughed and moved on.

Invest in some fractional plates - you can get them from Amazon. Only go up small increments. Also, consider switching to a 3x5 for bench. Finally, you can play around with the programming - the 70s Big linear program has some interesting suggestions for when you stall.

Make sure you are eating enough, and that you have enough carbs to make it through your workout.

Consider trying Smolov Jr.

Work on your form, make sure you use leg drive...

There's no shortage of things you can try, but the big key is to experiment, take notes, and figure out what works for you.

is what people are talking about when they say "roll the bar down to your hips"

once it's there you can basically row the bar to the ground or shimmy your legs out from under it

personally i just switched to DBs

This. Stay with 5x5 and increase the weight each week by the lowest increment possible. Usually this is a total of a 5 pound increase.

People don't just automatically roll the bar down when you fail a rep?

Like if you had a home gym would you just sit there with the bar on your chest screaming for siri to call mom? I'm surprised you found your way out the womb.

I fail at reps almost every workout lmao.

Roll down chest until you can sit up.
Sit up and spread legs putting bar on bench. Now i'm lazy as **** so i don't take off the weight to re-rack and continue.

With bar on bench balance and roll it back up to where your head would be. Once there stand on bench with bar, now grab bar and deadlift it up to re-rack and continue.

Okay, srs question, how the phuck do I raise my bench?

I've been going at it for a month and a half from no prior lifting. Started out doing 95 lbs and got to 145 lbs, but I feel that's too low. I'm able to go up 10 lbs every week with every other compound lift (save for OHP), but I'm finding it difficult to raise my bench, which I can only increase every two or so weeks. Wat do?

Does the bench have those pegs below where you can rest the bar? It's saved my ass many times.
