No, don't switch if your goal is to improve your bench. Focus on your barbell bench, use DBs for accessory work

Seriously, why are you recommending an advanced peaking program for a beginner lifter?
It's not a bad way to break through a plateau. If he gets legit stuck, run it once to break through the plateau and resume a linear progression.

Edit: I actually did it once before I had moved to Texas method and it totally helped me. Everyone's mileage may vary.

If you're a beginner the way to get stronger is to eat more. You don't need a fancy program where you bench 4x a week. Just bench with linear progression and constantly eat.

The older I get the less I care about PRs. OP though if I could only bench 1 time my body weight I would keep going. Don't let this one experience be shame. While I have never had this happen to me I have rolled right off the bench with 100 lbs dumbells. I have collapsed from pulling so much weight. **** happens man. If you wanna get bigger it requires pushing your limits. I have been plagued with various injuries so my outlook for myself has changed.

238 on 4/11/17
229 on 5/18/17
231(came back from my Honeymoon so I gained a little) on 6/9/17
My goal weight is 220 I think we will see

You're likely getting a lot of bad information though. I didn't have time to read through the thread

Bruh I had no idea until after posting this thread that you could roll the weight down. Probably could have saved me a lot of embarrassment.

I think that I would too to be honest, I can laugh about it now but at the time I was mortified and it took a lot of psyching up for my next workout ha. No worries although she didn't have to add insult to injury by patting me on the head.

I seriously wonder about some of you weirdos

ASK someone to spot you. You don't have to know someone to ask them to spot you in a gym, it's a god damn gym.

Same type of dudes to circle around a piece of equipment for 30 minutes when you can just ask to work in

5*5 is nasty business. Did it last week. Do it every second week. Sucks, and requires a lot of focus if you are going heavy enough.

The only excuses not to ask a stranger for a spot are:

- there are nothing but scrawny teenagers or college students around.

- the only people have MS-13, Aryan Nation or rival gang tattoos.

Just roll it down your body, sit up, roll it onto the bench seat, then pick it up and put it back up. I do it all the time. It's not a big deal.
