When I do them everyday is only to do 1 set at max reps. I think Extremist do this some times too. For me it is only valid for few days. I prefer 2-3 times/week, being the twice a week the best way to face the workout being at 100%. I think more than 2 workouts/week you have to start to control the intensity of the training (talking in terms of pull ups workouts).

Extremist, I upload a video of today's training in which have achieved 100 reps under 6'. Take a look and let's see if the mark of 5'57" can be on that list.

Fitman! Nice work. Interesting that you did 12 to start, then sets of 4, 3, and mostly sets of 2. I did 200 for time this morning and did it in 15:25. I did 34 unbroken, then 38 by 1 minute, then 61 by 3 minutes, 100 by 6:27, then the next 100 in 8:58. I did all sets of 1 after my first 34. Hmm. I might have to rethink those longer 100 and 200 for time strategies. But great job. Looked good to me.

Extremist, if we are updating the chart, I believe EPC gave me the nod at 46 BW reps. I also did 22 reps with a 45 lb plate a couple of months ago. Check them out and let me know your thoughts. And thanks for helping get this second thread going. Most appreciated.

Depends on your goals, Tony. If you're just looking to blow off some steam every day, then you can probably get away with doing them daily, just not too intensely. If you're looking to make gains, then no more than 2-3 times a week is usually the way to go. I go hard twice a week, and it's been working out pretty good for me. My muscles need recovery when I blast them.

my 1RM is 50-55kg and I still have no idea how to program and periodize lol

working sets currently with 25-30kg for 4-7 reps
feels like too low volume to progress (even 4-5 sets) but when I try to do more I just feel destroyed

Wow. High volume. Good job. A few of the early reps looked close for chin getting over bar, but I think you got them and it was probably just the film angle. An impressive set. Looks like training heavy is helping BW!

Try doing max reps in a minute with 4-5 minutes of rest between sets, and dropping weight each set, 5-6 sets total. And you can drop from the bar during each set to rest. You'll be surprised at how much this increases your max reps and max weight. For example, I do max reps with 100 lbs, then 80 lbs, then 60 lbs, then 40 lbs, then 20 lbs, then bodyweight. So with a workout like that, I'd end up doing over 100 reps, with most of them weighted. I can only do a workout like that at most once a week, perhaps once every two week and a half, even though I do pull ups twice a week. On other days I might do 100 reps with a 40 lb pack for time, or try for 5 sets of 10 reps with a 40 lb pack (no dropping from bar), or whatever else seems exciting.

Mark, looks good. Have you considered getting or using some type of step so that you can step up to your backyard pull up bar (versus jumping up to the bar)? I think you'd be able to do more weighted pull ups on a sturdy bar like that versus a door frame pull up bar. Regardless, nice 16.

How many strict form chest to bar pull ups can people do? I read in Men's Health that 25 strict form chest to bar pull ups is considered elite. I haven't done much chest to bar, but I might see what I've got later this week and post a video. Anyone else want to see if they can crack the 25? Strict form would be chest to bar, full arm lock out on way down, no kipping, legs straight or light knee bend (like GWR attempts), and no bending at waist.

Yeah, I thought I got them all after the set; but re-watching on video, a couple at the very beginning look a little closer than I thought. (Filming from down below rather than at bar level is a bit of a disadvantage, especially if the chin is pulled back slightly from the bar at top position.) Rep #4 might honestly not count for a competition. The rest seemed OK to me on slow mo; but others will have to judge. Regardless, I was pretty pumped that the strength was there. I actually did the attempt a few weeks ago while riding the wave of Guinness training for the +40 and 60. Haha. Having been on vacation, I may need a little time to get back there. Cracking down on the diet and ramping up training now that I'm back!

A coincidence you mention this -- by chance, I did a set of chest to bar yesterday and got 25 on the dot. Maybe this Friday I will try and post a video. Cool challenge. BTW, nice set with the 45 plate. I bet you could have made a push for a couple more reps around the time of our attempt. Worth taking another shot. Interesting how at body weight, max in a set seems to be higher than max in a minute. But then when it comes to weighted, max in a minute his higher.

Prof! Ha! Good to ride that wave of GWR attempts. I thought you just did that BW set, and was like damn, he's back in shape quick! Though I'm sure you're not far from top shape. It comes back pretty quick.

Nice work on the 25 chest to bar. I'll probably see where I'm at with these. Good call on your end to work on these, as it should hopefully help for later reps in a max set to have that high chin above bar strength.

And good observation about max in a minute BW versus weighted. Dropping from the bar on weighted max reps in a minute seems to be much more functional than BW max reps in a minute. Still much to learn and fine tune.

Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

I have very little space between the bar and the roof, so it is not possible for me. I'm used to just pass the chin over the bar so I'm sure that extra ROM would be much more difficult for me.

Look very good to me. Be careful with that super extension of the arms because can be a reason of elbow injury, specially when extra weight is applied.

Extremist and Profpullups, I would like to know your opinion about my video. Have to add I'm working on fixing the legs movement and day by day I'm improving. I'm trying to get the point where no one can doubt about the legit of pullups (quite difficult I know, specially for that experts who can't do 5 pullups).

Fitman, no worries. My home pull up bar is not conducive to chest to bar pull ups either. I've got to hit up the local YMCA! Don't bang your head.

Also, don't sweat the internet trolls who can't do 5 legit pull ups but criticize everyone else. I've just been using the Guinness World Record standard for pull ups, and sleeping pretty well at night about it. Your pull ups for that 100 looked to satisfy that standard, so keep up the good work.

The only pullup record in the new GWR book is for the 24 hours pullup record and it's not even up to date.

Fitman, your 100 pull-ups looked very good, up to Guinness standards. The bend in your knees is only very slight and almost certainly acceptable by any standard I know of. The most important point is that you are straight at the hips, which is what Guinness seems to watch for most carefully. So long as the knees don't come up during the pull, all good! And by the way, your time is great. I noticed you barely missed #92, and had to do it again, which probably cost you a good 6-8 seconds. So you're probably below 5:50 with perfect execution. Very impressive.
