Got 25 chest to bar pull ups. Form was good by most standards, though GWR would ding me for bending at the waist a little on some of the later reps. First time doing chest to bar in forever. Definitely good for practicing getting the chin high above the bar. What do you all think?

Pull ups are under represented this go round. We shall have to remedy that and see if we can set some good records this year.

Ha ha! Thanks, FannySkelper. No kipping pull ups on this thread. I've never actually trained kipping pull ups. Ever. Once. They look really hard on the shoulder, like an injury waiting to happen.

Awesome Cooperrun! very good job! If this is the first time it's obvious you will improve this number very soon. What's the number you think about?

Today is the 3rd training day achieving 100 reps in 5:50 (2 days under and 1 day above). It's curious because I don't control the pace and I'm getting the same time (2-4 seconds +/-). Now I will rest 2-3 days and will see if can break that time. Lastly training 3 times/week.

Nice work. Those pull ups in the first video looked tough. Impressive. Something that worked for me to prevent breaking at the waist is to clench your glutes. Makes it very tough to break at the waist. Once you get good at that, I think it's actually easier to get more reps than breaking at the waist, since there is less movement below the bar, and therefore less wasted energy.

Good job, Fitman. You're making great progress. I'm not sure if I have a goal for chest to bar. More just want to work on them to maximize that strength for getting the chin high above the bar, with hopes it'll help when I'm gassed doing max in one minute attempts. Next up, weighted chest to bar!

Alright pull up junkies, I need some honest and candid feedback. For those of you that have or have ever used door frame pull up bars, what are the things that you like about them, and what are the things that you wish were improved about them? I will start.
Things I like:
1. Convenience
2. Price - $20-$60 is a good price for a functional piece of exercise equipment

Things I wish were improved:
1. Height adjustable - it'd be nice if the height could be adjusted for different people's heights, but also different movements, such as feet assisted pull ups and inverted rows for beginners or those recovering from injuries, as well as different heights for kids.
2. Range of motion - in my experience the single door mounted bars such ashttps://www.perfectonline.com/product/Pullupdon't allow ones arms to naturally spread wide on the upward movement, forcing an unnatural movement that keeps one's arms tucked in. I used to get injuries in my elbow from this, and suspect others unknowingly do as well. Also, with these bars, unless one's door frame is unusually tall, one has to tilt back unnaturally to get the chin over the bar and not have the head hit the top of the door frame.
3. Stability - The removable pull up bars such ashttps://www.perfectonline.com/catego...l/multi-gymproare not that stable. I'm always worried they will pop off, or that I can't really crank out pull ups because they aren't that stable.

Can any of you brahs do a front lever? I'm assuming many of you can since your pulling strength is so strong.

I recently just messed around and was able to hold a straddle lever out of nowhere all thanks to getting a bit better at weighted pull ups. I figure another 20-30lbs I'll have the strength to do a front lever, I just need to hit my core more.
Death is impossible for us to fathom: it is so immense, so frightening, that we will do almost anything to avoid thinking about it. Society is organized to make death invisible, to keep it several steps removed. That distance may seem necessary for our comfort, but it comes with a terrible price: the illusion of limitless time, and a consequent lack of seriousness about daily life. We are running away from the one reality that faces us all.

Pros for doorframe:

1. Convenient
2. Cost
3. Smaller bar diameter

Cons:

1. You must bend your legs
2. Width grip is limited
3. Pulling height is limited (I get scared of hitting my forehead on the doorframe)

Form looked great for both pull ups and push ups. Your last two pull ups you had some decent break at the waist, but otherwise they were excellent. Your chin was well above the bar, and your push ups were clearly air tight. Nice work. And thanks for the response on the door frame pull up.

Tips for improving Pull ups? I normally do them twice a week on pull day, about 4 sets of 6-10 at the start of workout. Goal is to get 20 in one set
It's absurd to worry about what other people think about you because they almost never do. Like you, they are too busy thinking about themselves and how much they think other people are thinking about them.

I would bang out some pull ups every chance I could.. I would use a pull up program as part of the workout... and then throughout the day I would do some pull ups here and there.. people here have different types of ways that work for them.

max sets, pyramids, weighted were a lot of the ones I did. even trying to hit 50 in as little sets as possible

Try 50 for time, eventually working up to 100 for time after 4-8 weeks. I do pull ups twice a week, but like MousePad said, everyone does things a little different. Also try for sets of 5-6 off 1 min rest till you can't do a set of 5 without peeling off the bar. A ladder is good with 10 seconds rest per pull up. So start with 1 pull up, rest 10 seconds, then do 2 pull ups, rest 20 seconds, then 3 pull ups, rest 30 seconds, etc. Keep going till you can't complete a set without peeling off the bar. If you do pull ups twice a week, you want to build up to be doing 60-100 pull ups per session, along with whatever else you are doing for pull day. That should eventually get you to 20+ good form pull ups. I like to add in some different grips like chin ups and neutral grips too. I feel like that hits additional muscles.

with how many sets per training session/week did you have the best progress? 4-5 sets/session twice a week worked for me. I am trying to build to up to 6 sets after a longer break now

also I thought of splitting all sets into 3 training days instead but not sure how would I manage fatigue and overtraining, higher frequency could be better tho

I do twice a week too, and find that to work. I also have discovered that total number of pull ups is often a better target than how many sets. For example, I shoot for 160-200 pull ups per session, twice a week. Depending on your goals, that might be a good consideration for you. I have also surprisingly found that breaking my workout into two or sometimes three separate workouts works best. Thus I might do start with max weighted pull ups sets in a minute with 100 lbs, 80 lbs, 60, lbs, 40 lbs, 20 lbs, then bodyweight. I'd rest 3-5 minutes in between sets. Then after that I might do 50 or 60 pull ups for time, trying to break say 3 minutes. I've also discovered that max reps for time work best and are easiest on the body when I don't hang from the bar when I'm gassed, but rest, then do sets of 1-3 depending on how tired I am.

Looked good. There was a little waist bending at the end, but an impressive set. Nice job.
