Someone had opened an Abbott's Frozen Custard store up north in Denver . . . I could drive up there and buy the white hots and custard. They closed the other week. Sucks. Now I'm back to ordering online and paying a boatload for shipping them frozen out here again.

If you are going to do a butt, this is what I would suggest (take into account that I'm just some guy):

Prep the butt by smearing it in yellow mustard before applying your rub, then apply rub and put it away.

On the bottom grill grate where you normally dump charcoal, you should set a $1 tin roast pan in sort of the center, under the roast. Partially fill it w/ HOT water. I assume Google has shown you how to arrange the snake, so I won't comment on that.

Arrange your bottom vent to a place where it's almost closed (I would have it open only wide enough to allow you to slip the diameter of a wire hanger through the crack) and the top a little more open (here, I like to keep the top vent open only about enough to allow you to slip something the diameter of a pencil through the crack). Obviously wind and temperature and such will dictate that you may need to stray from that, but I think it's a good starting point.

What sort of wood and charcoal are you planning to use?

I've definitely been googling lately and aware of snake/water tin. How long does it take to run through the tin? I have standard issue Kingsford (non-matchlight). Local hardware store has a NICE arrangement of various types of bags of wood for smoking, but is there a "better place" to find stuff for my adds for the snake? The ones they have seem more "box store" variety.

My biggest thing will be (just haven't looked into it yet) how long to cook whatever meat im cooking.

Why is a "cheap" AK so god damn expensive? At the rate prices seem to be going up an N-PAP is going to be $800 next year.

Pap cost has been going up because the quantities that are being imported aren't what they were months - years ago. Why? I don't know. But that's what the price increase is from.

IDK what you mean by how long does it take to run through the tin. If you mean, how long will it last before you need to replace it, a long time. Kingsford will be good, imo. Some people like lump, but Kingsford is more consistent. Hardware store hickory or pecan or apple will probably be just fine. And, yeah, obviously Google for rules of thumb such as Xhours per pound at 225 degrees, etc.

More along the lines of do I really need to worry about the tin running dry or if it's full im set for pretty much an entire evolution?

No, I didn't think anyone was trying to rip me off or anything. If that was the case I can usually find some place with good pricing, but everyone is asking for the same price mostly, so I know it's not on the dealers end themselves. Just weird to see. The appeal of WASR and PAP's were that they were cheap and easy. Seems like the companies are going to price themselves out of the main thing that was attractive about them. Hopefully whatever the reasoning for the slower distribution is gets fixed.
