Full surround or a sound bar with a sub for 600 Sq foot room we'll be having friends over in?

I think it was all three of the above...
The dems HAD the majority in the house and senate BEFORE that election--that's how they got the gun laws through. They lost seats in both chambers and lost control of the senate in that election (largely because of the gun laws). But carry on with your expertise on CO.

CO is most definitely purple and it swings . . . sometimes more to the left than the right/center. For a couple cycles it was more blue. But the majority of voters are independents and you see things like the recalls of anti-gun legislators, the loss of the dem senator, etc. And so it waffles back and forth. Trump and Johnson together have significantly more support than Hillary. Blue state?

EDIT: LOL @ "NY/CA style" gun laws in CO. We have a BGC law and a 15 round mag limit. That's it.

Sound bars tend to be overpriced/overrated with meh performance at best. For TV, movies, action, etc, they suck because they are still basically just a center channel, sound can't come from the sides when the only speaker is right in front of the TV. They also sacrifice performance to keep the small form factor. I guarantee you can get better sound for less money with actual speakers, even if it's just two side speakers and a sub (center, two sides, and sub better, rear surrounds of course better still but for music or sporting events not sure you'll miss rear speakers much)

2. The soundbar is directional withmultiple speakers, and can be adjusted for multiple sitting positions to replicate surround sound.

Actually, I had a professional home entertainment designer come out to my livingroom, build a false wall where an old-school non-flat screen TV would've gone (2000 built house) with a basic surround sound system and the bose soundbar I use, and do a demo. I've had many people be surprised that I "only" have a soundbar. Meanwhile, I didn't have to deal with wires or drilling into my ceiling to run wiring/panels.

You set up the soundbar once it's mounted, and the difference between the bar "unadjusted" and "adjusted" for any given position is staggering.


For Jerry's room size, you might be better off with surround sound.

What the hell would you have to drill into your CEILING for when comparing to a sound bar? Your sound bar has rear speakers behind the seating area, without wires?

But building a false wall is definitely less work than running wires to speakers.

Fwiw, the walls will be down when I do the wiring. Full on renovation going down.

False wall was to mount the TV, not the speakers.

A lot of people want the sound to, well, sound as if it is coming from the same place as the video. For this reason, center channel speakers (most dialogue and on screen action, like 80%, are center channel) are generally placed as close as possible to the screen. This carries over to side channels since action and voices that pan across or come from a side will come from center and side channels simultaneously, and is not particularly compatible with speakers up by the ceiling since, well, the TV isn't up by the ceiling (ideal TV height is such that eye level is in the bottom 1/3 of the screen from the typical viewing position)

But I'm sure a false wall and speakers in the ceiling as recommended by the guy you paid to set up your television is pretty nifty

As a former music engineer, I say **** a sound bar. Also **** ceiling speakers for serious sound.

Look in to a good 2.1 or 3.1 system. I would go with something that has at least 5.25" mids and a decent textile or silk dome tweeter and a subwoofer with adjustable crossover. Output control would also be a big plus. Depending on room size and shape you may get a lot of standing waves. So, extra control may be necessary to get decently detailed sound.

Stay away from Bose. Look for Dynaudio if you're feeling like dropping decent cash. Polk is a good lower priced alternative.

Unless he is running am SACD or DVD-A system surround sound isn't really necessary for music and would require even more control and tweaking to get good consistent sound quality in multiple areas without phase issues.
