I agree with online video streaming being the future. However they're is different segments to thay. The real growth is going to be in services like Sling TV/PlayStation Vue. Where you have access to cable channels and packages.

The original content/movie/TV show streaming is separate from that. I think a lot of that growth has already happened. Then you add additional players like AMZN/HBO/APPLE/ whoever else and it dilutes the market.

The real winner is going to be the company that comes up with an all in one package Live TV/Original Content/Movies/TV shows. People don't want to have to pay 5-6 different things a month to have access to content. They want an all in one service. If someone can come up with that at a reasonable price that's a wrap.

Answer my question. If you are such a player, why not trade on margin? 1% on $50k is peanuts after capital gains taxes.

We all have different ideas on how to make money. Heres another angle:
Invest $25k into a business with backed hard assets (6 years ago)
Ive taken $2k-$3k/month since its inception and will continue to receive that or more without lifting a finger indefinitely.

This is my idea of a good investment and seek to do this many times over until I hit $1M RESIDUAL income annually.

the less i have to do this stuff, the better. definitely keeping my eyes open for more rock solid real life investments. slower and steady is fine if its something physical. probz real estate after a tonnn more research and when my lease is up/next year (mainly to accumulate more $ and see where im at then before making any big buys)

i am lucky to have a very healthy amount of liquid funds to play round with now, honestly dont know much about margin accts but im happy with the way it is now. ive got pleenty to learn tho so you may very well be right

I'm sorry you disagree with this strategy. But the fact is, both Amazon and Netflix, the two dominant streaming video providers, are pursuing this route. They are no dummies, even if you are inclined to think so. Specific discussions have been provided stating why they are going this route: more exclusive content that differentiates them from other platforms, and much stronger financial returns. Think about it, if every streaming platform licenses the same media content from the incumbent producers, then the only thing that differentiates them is pricing, which is a loser's game.

I'm sure you have anecdotal evidence of people cancelling their subscriptions because they are "fed up with Netflix". Yet, they have continued to grow subscribers at an incredible rate, even after the recent price hike. And they are just scraping the surface in terms of international subscribers. Also, please tell me which online streaming platform has good movies lineup? This is not a NFLX problem, this is a industry problem where movie producers insist on the delay for streaming of movies online. At least with NFLX, you can still get the movies through DVDs.

Comparing P/E ratios for fast-growing, barely profitable companies like NFLX is irrelevant and intellectual dishonest. I'm not saying the stock is cheap, but the high multiples come from its subscribers growth and being a leader and first mover in a disruptive industry.

The problem with gold is that investing in it is based on the "greater fool" theory - that someone is willing to buy it at a higher price. There's nothing you can use to value gold to see whether it's cheap or expensive. There's no earnings, no dividends, no cash flow. It basically moves with investors' sentiments, and you may be able to TRADE on that, but you can't INVEST in it.

I agree that Netflix has as huge advantage being first to market when it comes to streaming. However they are quickly losing that advantage. Big players with more brand loyalty are moving in. They are in a better position financially to make content deals. I mean even Twitter has purchased the rights to stream NFL games.

Netflix has already spent 4 billion on content this year. With future spending at 10 billion. They have paper thin margins and are burning cash at an alarming rate. They have a negative free cash flow. I just don't think they're in a position to compete with some of the other big hitters.

Let's also not forget last quarter they reported a sharp slowdown in growth. That coincides with price increases and less content. Market saturation in the US may have occurred.

You're gonna invest thousands to make a few hundred bucks with a spike? Not much reward to that risk, OP.
