Table of prestigious jobs.

From my Society and the Individual class, which specifically focuses on class prestige, money, and wealth.
Finally, it is interesting to note that most prestigious jobs are white-collar occupations that involve mental activity rather than blue-collar occupations that require physical labor. These rankings have remained stable for several decades.

Harrison, Brigid C.. Power and Society: An Introduction to the Social Sciences (Page 113). Cengage Learning. Kindle Edition.
Thoughts? Where are all the trades who are making 250k a year out of their first year of high school?

Education has been reserved for the upper class since the dawn of mankind, how could anybody argue otherwise?

idk - I'm an English teacher and every time someone finds out they tell me all sorts of good things about the work I do. I'd say teachers are viewed in pretty good light.

Yeah I really can't think of anything more prestigious than teaching English to high schoolers tbh

I'm an accountant and anyone who hears this wants tips on how to save on taxes. I don't view my profession as prestigious.

"morally" or socially, teachers/professors are held in high prestige.
Economically/Financially...not soo much.

i remember my sociology professor in college asked us to rank 10 professions according to prestige. "Sociology professor" was one of the 10 professions.

our class ranked it last, below "garbage man".

Lawyer + Accountant checking in, fkn lol when people in these fields act like their jobs are so prestigious. Brb most will cap out at $80-100k and live a middle class lifestyle.

A 15 year old kid can rap and slap girls assess on video and make more than the average salary of every job on that list combined per year while gaining international fame and tons of pussy. Unless you're in the top 1% of your profession and making HUGE $$$ with a solid reputation for being the best, nobody cares about what you do for a living as long as you aren't a deadbeat.

Stock broker is peasant AF for the most part.

LOL at being a retail broker working for investors group going door to door trying to get people to invest in your chitty proprietary products.

Stockbroker is only balling if you're managing a 200 million dollar book. To do this though you most likely already need to come from money and be very well connected or have worked in a more prestigious area of the industry prior to your career as a broker.

Also most brokers are literally retarded scum bags and don't know anything about finance and are just relationship managers. In fact a lot of them can't even use excel.

LOL at retail finance.

It's an easy field to get into and most of them do really poorly yet act big, LOL @ them. But the ones at the top of the game are well connected and usually come from a family with money and property themselves.

For example, Bob Rennie is pretty much a "realtor" here but gets driven around in a chauffeured Bentley and has tens of millions of $, 'mirin

EE crew checkin in. LOL at "prestige". Only really dumb and/or uneducated people respect people based on their professions.

Source: I know many engineers. Several good friends are doctors with a few more in med school. So many of them are straight up morons. They also always joke around about how dumb we all are and how most "professionals" dont know jack chit. You're a certified moron if you think otherwise.

I know engineers in their 20's making >$100/year. Hell, a few lucky bastards at my university got six figure offers right out of school (undergrad engineering degree). Engineering salaries do cap out relatively low, but $80k??

True or not your profession makes a big difference to the level of respect you get from people in general society which is why "so what do you do?" is one of the first questions out of people's mouths.

From a sociological perspective, the general public bases status on the prestige of your profession and the income associated with it.

The thing is, a lot of people care about your profession. Far more than you think, and that's why you should care. People subconsciously divide you into certain classes based on your profession.
