My complete ignorance? Powerlifting is ignorance. I wish we could shut all of you guys up, you give out absolute dog chit training advice and steer so many people into crappy training. Good luck with your big ass and leg goals of 2017.

I can't comprehend squatting that weight either

I have unracked 1k before. I legitimately thought I was going to seriously injure myself just standing there. Tasted blood in my mouth. Never again

Squatting more than you deadlift is actually very common when you get to the higher levels of powerlifting in heavier weight classes. This is due to the rebound you can get with the descent of the squat, whereas with the deadlift the weight is flat on the floor and there is no momentum whatsoever.

also in the heavier weight classes they are fat and have large bellies. Their belly literally gets in the way of bending over to grab the bar, putting them in a less than optimal pulling position

they're also wide as fuk so they basically have a snatch grip. the guys with the huge squats most of the time also have shorter limbs/long torso where you want relative longer limbs, especially arms for deadlift

Even still a guy like Eric Lilliebridge who has a 1060 squat wrapped will never deadlift that amount. It's not because of his positioning to the bar or his body type, it's just not a physically attainable deadlift.

Think of the squat like a touch and go deadlift starting from the top position... if you can get that bounce/rebound off the bottom like you do with a squat then you'll be able to pull more weight. That's what makes the deadlift significantly more difficult when you get to those types of numbers. This is why we are seeing the world record squats being beaten year after year by significant amounts of weight, but the deadlift records stay relatively the same with much smaller increases.

Is there anyone up and coming that can actually smash some DL records for the 308 or SHW?

I know Yury will probably continue to re-break his record in the lower weight classes.

Eddie Hall seems to always lift with straps and/or suit, not to mention whippy bars loaded with wide plates.

Not really for the heavyweight guys.. Eddie Hall but like you said straps and suit and he doesn't compete in the powerlifting world.

Chris Duffin hit 1000x3 at 260 bw but that was with straps and touch n go. He doesn't train much without straps but when he does do meets he does very well so I'm sure he'd be in the mid to upper 900's

Pete Rubish has been going insane with the deadlift but always seems to lift much more with straps in the gym than he does at meets.

Off the top of my head I really can't think of any heavyweight guys that are world record potential deadlifters

I've watched Duffin's top sets of deads over and over, after he's done pulling the slack out of the bar his ROM seems to be like 6-8", it perplexes me how his ROM appears so condensed even when compared to other heavy sumo pullers. Not trying to take anything away from the weight he is moving, his strength at lockout is phenomenal.

Saw this the day he competed. First thing that crossed my mind was that he left a few pounds on the platform. He made that squat look easy.

It's because his set up and technique is so flawless. He's mentioned before that his limb lengths and everything are completely normal. I can confirm, I actually trained with him last year it was fking awesome. He basically explained that when you deadlift all you're doing is wedging your hips under the weight. He just does it so perfectly and gets himself in such an efficient position it looks like an easy and tiny ROM. A lot of the russian sumo pullers have the same type of look when they deadlift

Oh yeah, at least the SHW class would have their record books rewritten in about one Saturday. I would literally pay Brian Shaw money to compete in 1 powerlifting meet
