I thought I was slipping that way last year accepting mediocrity and a family life at 27. I cold turkey'd it and suffered while taking a week off at a cabin in the woods. Worked. Took no food, just a bow and knife with a pole and lures. Didn't give a fck if a game warden jailed me for it. It was almost as bad as coming off a full EC stack the first time. Brutal. It was cold as **** too.

Good luck OP.

Last time I slowly cut down to 375ml of alcohol a day, then i stopped completely from there. It was definitely still tough to do.

Yeah The withdrawals are scary. I drank 15 drinks a night for over 2 years and I was drinking all day in the final months. I remember crying that I was going to die because I tried to stop but by 1pm I needed a drink.

I tapered off and got down to a 6 pack a night for a while and then 4. Then I just told myself I had to quit. I was bed ridden for days because it was too much to leave or even get up because of the anxiety. My mind was ****ed for a year after but I'm finally doing great after nearly 2.5 years sober.

Alcohol withdrawals are terrifying but I didn't have much time left if I didn't quit drinking. Get professional help first if you can because alcohol withdrawal can kill you

Dang sorry to hear man. As others have said, just cut down slowly. If it isn't as bad as some people get (into heavy drinking), then this way should work as long as you ease into it. Start with maybe one drink less a day, like cut out the drink you would usually have post workout. Do that for a week or so, then do another one, etc etc. Eventually you build confidence mentally in terms of accomplishing small goals, and it will slowly get easier.

Also stay positive mentally. It may sound queer, but keep telling yourself that things are good, or today is going to be a good day. If you feel the urge to drink, just say stuff like "nah fuk that I don't need that right now. I ain't a weak pussy." Something that will tell yourself that you're better than that.

Again take your time with it, but make sure you set a goal each week of drinking less, then hit that goal.

Also read. Sound gay but do it. Self reflect. Take a step back and look at your life, who you are, and who you want to be. This is the first step to start that journey to being a better you and being a fukking badass and not a weak bro that needs alcohol to subside your anxiety, life, issues, etc.

This worked well for me with caffeine. Not the same between the two, but the ideas will work.

Thankfully my dad prevented me from doing it when I was in high school/college, so now I drink probably a handful of times a year. Otherwise I would be like a lot of my friends too.

Fuk me OP. I read your post and got some small breezes of feels, then I saw You'll Never Walk Alone and the Hurricane Matthew of feels flooded my shores. Every time I hear that song I get different feels, and this time was no different. It's a fantastic song for rehab and recovery brah. I believe in you.

Just hold your head up high, and don't be afraid of the dark. There is no doubt about it, breaking alcoholism sucks. Breaking any addiction sucks. But you've got to keep walking on. After all the hardship and after all the pain, you're going to feel better about yourself. You'll wake up thinking breaking that addiction was the best thing you've ever done. Then you can get back to being you and and you can get back to achieving your dreams. Just walk on through the wind and the rain. Don't let it stop you. Never let it stop you.

At the end of the road, there's a golden sky, and the sweet silver sound of a lark. It's just waiting for you, OP. All you need to do is walk the road.

I'm like this on the weekend if I START drinking. It could be just 2 brews for dinner than before I know it I am at the club 15 beers deep and having more. Don't have any issue drinking during the week. But once I start on the weekend, it is pretty much inevitable I am going to keep drinking.

I know your feels OP, at least partly so. I've had my problems with alcohol on and off over the past 4 years... I'm glad to say that this last year has been by far the best I've been able to manage it, but I know myself well enough to start proclaiming myself as "cured". I know exactly what you mean about the anxiety/depression being the driving factor. For me it started as a way of loosening up when we were going out to parties, then eventually it became a way of getting "geared up" to face any normal day because the anxiety was just so out of control.

I wish I could give some more legit advice, but I think you've already gotten the best of it in this thread. Part of me wants to say it's as simple as " just gotta put your mind to it", which is sort of the 10 month fix I've been on now, but I know that's not always the case. I didn't read through this thread but I would highly, highly suggest going to see a shrink. It wasn't a magical elixir by any means but it did give me some tools that have come in handy, and while therapy is awkward at first, it does feel good to get things off of your chest without any judgement.

Have you talked to any one in your family or your social circles about this? Obviously not an easy thing to bring up with anyone but if you know they will be supportive and those are people you will see regularly, they are your best bet for support and help. Trying to beat an addiction by yourself is very difficult and any support you can get from those in your life that are close to you will help tremendously.

Good luck OP, I probably can't help much since I have never gone through this but if you need just vent feel free to PM me.

This is my exact plan. I cut out evening drinks last night. Couldn't fall asleep til 2 last night but woke up with a true hangover feeling this morning instead of the anxious/depression type. Headache and tired as fukk.

Do you still do stuff after work or just get a good enough buzz to pass out?

If you are heavily into drinking every few hours, even a long sesh of lifting won't make you pass out.

When I was coming off of spice (worst drug ever) and alcohol, I could go to the track and jog/walk 10+ miles and still coming home shaking knowing I wouldn't sleep for another day or two.

The good news is, that even if you were a heroin iv user (which you aren't op), that you will feel like your old self nearly entirely whatever you have to go through over a couple of days to weeks. Physical withdrawal from alcohol tends to stop within even a week tops.
