i am around 20k in the hole atm. i have a secure and well paid job though so it's not as stressful.

So basically I lost my job... in process of getting new job

but I couldn't make my amex payments. The CC is locked and basically I called them and they told me I have to pay 55 bucks by end of month to have the card open. Or they are gonna send it to collection agency....

After I called them from my friends phone they kept calling me and harassing me over the next few day asking how I'm gonna get the money, if I could borrow.

If this card goes to collections, What should I do about it? No point in making payments?

When this card goes to collection, its at 6 thousand. What are my choices?

I can negotiate the amount to a lower amount right? be like I only have 3k and try to pay off?

Don't let it get to collections, srs. If it gets to collections I promise you'll fuking regret it years later, cause it'll fuk ypu over for a long time. You don't have anybody that can give you 55 bucks?

In exact same position. Haven't done a thing. Have let everything go to collections. They're all charged off accounts now. The creditors will write it all off. Your credit score will drop, but the debt will just slowly diminish over time. No judgements or liens here, overall it's no big deal. Just don't pay it OP. srs.

If you have decent credit look into a loan, maybe something like a peer to peer (Prosper) with a low % rate.

Sit down and list your monthly budget, cut down on stuff you do not need.

If I start card again then it would just keep picking of interest?

if I let card go to Collection can I negotiate how much i pay not the full 6k?

also I don't really care of my credit score because I have plan long term to leave country

Honestly, there is no secret. Learn to live more frugal and pay down your debt faster. Get a second job when you can. go on the rice, beans and bread diet for a while (super cheap). There is no magic recipe to get out of this other than to pay it off, so start making more and spending less.

i didn't read the whole thread, but i work in the banking industry and see people with similar situations. MY recommendation would be to go to your bank and apply for a debt consolidation loan. Put all the debt into one place at a lower interest rate. Depending you could probably get a loan from 7-11% interest which would be much lower than CC (especially if you go over limit)

You're no longer dealing with Amex, you're dealing with some third party company that bought the debt from Amex.

well my plan is to move away to a different country in a few years. its 55 bucks to keep it going but then it would gather interest?

also if collections goes for 6k can I offer them like 4-5k to pay it off?

Once it is in collections you've already defaulted on the loan,

May as well declare bankruptcy srs. And play one fee (possibly even get some education on finances in the process) and then pay 0$.

Banks will be pushing you credit opportunities again in less than a year. Maybe this time you will make better decisions and not **** up

Pick up a book called the total money makeover by Dave Ramsey. You need to get out of debt and learn how to plan and live below your means. If you change your ways your credit score doesn't mean chit because your goal should be to get yourself financially stable and in a position where you NEVER borrow money again. I would suggest letting them go to collections and negotiating the debt down once you have some money saved. Your credit score will my look good for some time but it won't matter bc you're never borrowing money again. Read that book

Not true. If you don't pay the debt collector it goes to court, you'll get a letter to either go to court to defend yourself as to why you shouldn't have to pay it, or if you don't show, it will go as a default judgement against your name (I know because it happened to me). For 5 years the default stays against your credit rating and in that time its VERY difficult to get a loan etc. Massive interest etc. After 5 years it clears. Bankruptcy stays with you for 7 years (all this info is for Australia). You may be able to make a payment plan with them. Call them and find out. Just keep moving forward, these things do not go away and can haunt you for a very long time.

If you don't have the money at the moment, don't talk to them at all. They are known for using questionable tactics to get you to agree to things.

okay good news I completely paid of the 1500 td one.

bad news my amex is collections letters sent as well as my phone bill. Do I have to pay the full amount ? or can I negiote phone bill? offer like 1100?

also I am getting ****ed on my job. they over hired people and cut my hours. I was getting 50hrs a week now I get 8hrs every two weeks. Its union so since I am new I get less hours. I am currently looking for another job.

Phone thing is totally believable. One year I went to Toronto and roamed hardcore with my phone. I was tethering everywhere and ended up with a $1500 phone bill.

I disputed it though and got it down to $500 and paid that.
