how the **** do you live on 125 a week ??
my rent is 70 a week living up north in england
rent - 70 pw
car fuel 15 pw (lowball estimate)
gym - 5 pw roughly
bills - 7 pw roughly
council tax - 19 pw
car insurance - 25 pw roughly (Only had licence for 1 year hence why it cost so much)
theres probably some other small costs in there including internet, phone bill etc but my weekly expenses above are 141 and thats without food
I get about 1400 after tax and save about 750 though, planning to go travelling after 1 year

If you are legitimately saving 375 euro =>$400 a week, you are saving almost as much as me and I make over 100k/yr more than you lol. Mirin your saving ability hard man. I live in a crazy expensive city but still, this thread is inspiring me to be more thrifty.

Well, I am not amazed tbh.. many people I know haven't thought about the future. I have saved the equivalent of $ 21500 (converted it) and although my apartment cut my monthly savings short I am quite comfortable.
I am never going UNDER $ 21500. Some people can't go out for a good dinner and bar/club afterwards etc. and I do not understand how this is possible. I spent a lot of money on clothes and restaurants.. but I keep track of expenses.
Feels good, if you are my age (28) and you don't have at least 20 grand in savings I think your life is hard.. I pay my mortgage and taxes.. just like them.. yet look at the difference.

Assuming they lived a good, enjoyable but modest life, there's no reason why they couldn't save 500/month. That's an extra 6000 a year. Or even 250/month and 3K per year.
You can save a LOT by eating at home instead of Subway and McDonalds for lunch and dinner, and drinking a bottle of red wine a week instead of 10 pints and 5 vodka red bulls every Friday and Saturday.
Small changes go a long way, in the long term!

Trolling use to mean something

But I do live at home with zero "big" costs. The only time I have real costs are like once every 6 months when my dad might ask me to book a $2K flight for him and my mum, or pay the $1K water or gas bill (for the year). But I leave a bit of separate free cash for those things. And put 75% of my post-tax salary straight into savings

Some people are broke but on paper rich, Properties / investments / super
I'm extremely bad with saving money, I do not save money at all but I have been lucky that when I was 16 I was given shares as birthday present but I'm not allowed to touch them until I'm 35, so that is my savings. If something happened I needed money I do have credit card which I haven't touched, still has 10k on it if I needed the cash desperately.

Is having that safety net the reason why you didn't focus or care about saving salary?

Legit unless you are going to Vegas once every couple of weeks, how is this even possible if you don't have a car?
If you told me you drove an Audi R8 or something I would be like fair enough... but you don't even drive!?!?!

I make 45k a year and after taxes, health care and retirement my paychecks are 1077 every two weeks. 26 pay periods equals 28,000 a year
Rent and electric, heat, internet a month is roughly 850 a month so 10,200
So down to 17,800
Car payments 412 a month so 5000 a year
Down to 12,800
Phone is 80 a month so 1000
Down to 11,800
Gas (150 month) car insurance (92 month) groceries (200 month) student loan (100 month) is 542 a month so 6,500
Down to 5,296
Shopping (house stuff, misc stuff that wears out, alcohol, eating out - dates) 400 a month equals 4,800
Down to 500 dollars net lmao
I have 1000 in my savings
Anytime I get extra money by being a complete loser and not doing anything I put into my loans.
TFW 45000 a year makes me broke

In the city (NYC) it was worse, I was living in some nasty ass studio paying $2500 a month. This is a step up for me.

You save money from not paying rent in a country where rent prices are out of control?
Mind blown...... And yeh it is sometimes "looked down on" for living with parents, but tons of people who earn over 40k a year in my office do, it's common to have moved out, rented for a bit and then moved back home to save for a house...
But some people don't have that option and live a life of not saving much money, just be thankful to your parents.
