I can picture exactly what you did, next time:

Wait until she's done with a set
Ask "can I squat on the outside of your rack?"
Work between her sets as she was there first
Take pics for the misc
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

Yeah, like I said it was my fault for not asking her first if I can use the rack behind her. I usually ask if there's a guy there, but she was a girl so it was anxiety-provoking. I usually pretend that the girls don't exist at the gym.

I seriously need to deal with this crippling anxiety around women. It's getting me into trouble.

Tell her you're sorry, and you'd like to make it up to her by taking her out for coffee. Then, smash.

If it's gnawing at you and you feel you HAVE to say something it to her, "Hey, again, I apologize for messing up your set." Smile, move on. Learn.

I'll probably just go and tell her that I was sorry for ruining her set, that I should have asked her to use the rack behind her before I set it up and then wait ed until she was done her set. And that I didn't say anything because I was too shy.

Ive actually seen this happen in real life. Someone was squatting in a half rack with the set safety bars. And someone decided to deadlift right in front of the rack.

This. Wtf op. You can't just creep up and start squatting directly behind someone else squatting.

For sure. I'm also 5'5" and once asked a strong 5'10" chick to spot me on bench. She was charmed because it was a heavy bench and there were like 5 skinny FA's I skipped to ask her. You might want to get out of the mindset of calling a chick squatting "this meaty woman" as well.

I'd rather hang off a cliff than talk to a random girl I don't know. It's that bad. And she was actually meaty, built like a powerlifter. She was squatting 205 lbs for reps.

I mean youre not supposed to be behind someone while they're squatting. But it sounds like she overreacted.

I wouldn't explain your social anxiety etc, you could just apologize for fking her set up (BETWEEN SETS), just say you feel bad, you didn't realise it was inappropriate or didn't think it would fk things up etc.

Don't grovel, she either accepts it or she doesn't, you've done your part once you've apologized.

Alright I'll do that.

This is the last time I'm getting anywhere near a girl at the gym.

Dont do that. Because then you show you have something to be ashamed about. Just act like it never happened, and that puts you above the situation.

Good for her, strong women are cool. Now you know her and have a reason to talk to her, kind of a rough start but points for originality.

Not all chicks that lift are plastic IG implant blondes sticking out their asses for the mirror and likes.

Wait I'm not sure if this is being interpreted correctly. I started putting plates on the bar on the outside, I didn't go and rack the plates at the power rack.

And I already admitted it was my fault.

If you're doing that then you deserved to get yelled at. You do not understand the tenets of the weight room--that is your biggest problem. Second, it was douchey not to ask her if you could work in on the outside rack. Third, you should've waited until she finished her set and then loaded your bar. Learn some decorum.

You started messing with shyt on the cage she was in while she was squatting heavy.

Apologise to her for not waiting until her set was done.

So, first of all, you're working on the outside of the rack. Alright. But when she's done her set you expect her to duck under the bar you set up to use? Assuming she has some safety bars set up, she has no way out of the rack. You're an idiot.

Secondly, you would look a lot less stupid if you went over and stuttered and talked like a blubbering idiot than you did, doing what you did. People appreciate respect, regardless of how it comes out.

There's enough room for her to squat safely with the bar positioned on the rack. The cage was much larger. The bar being there didn't prevent her from squatting, as she did another set while the bar was racked.

Not sure how else I could demonstrate respect. I helped her rerack the bar so she could continue her sets.

Just explain to her that you're autistic and apologize, let her guilt trip over bullying the autistic kid.

because seriously even if there is technically room, what you did is socially weird as hell.
