It served a valuable purpose at one time but does not in 2016. That is my whole point.

Lifting out without gaining strength is like making your car look super cool....until a van kicks your ass.
Either way, they go hand in hand. Balance is key.

Only strength I truly respect/admire is body weight strength.
Be able to do movements like the human flag or front lever, even seeing how many pullups you can do, I think is amazing.

Yes.

It is definitely impressive, but unless you are making a substantial income from it what does it really serve in your overall life?

Maybe, but there is a very clear distinction between a DYEL and someone who lifts.

Not always. A lot of chicks think Justin Bieber is jacked while everybody on this forum would say he is DYEL.

In 2016 we had the summer Olympics. In the summer Olympics they have weightlifting at different weight classes. The strongest person wins.
So, they had a lot to gain by being strong in 2016, an Olympic medal.

I do it for health, I dont do crossfit, I just dont do stupid things like try and get a 1RM. What's the point? Its nothing special, anybody with enough time and gear can get it, its a non-achievement. I'd rather have working joints in my 40s and older thanks.

Any passion that people have put perseverance, dedication and hard work into is impressive. It shows a strong will and a mastery of any skill or function is impressive for that reason.

Being strong, or rather training to be strong requires a strong mind too which is impressive

They do it for recognition. If it was just for the passion of it then they would not even bother going to the Olympics.

yeah, you are right. As long as you stay at a healthy weight and eat right that is all you would need. Thirty minutes not ten, though.

That is true. I dont see why those people have to try and put down others who genuinely lift just to be more healthy/look good. There is a difference between someone doing a full body workout a few times a week and someone who doesnt go to the gym. Obviously the person that does is going to be much stronger, they dont have to put their back or their knees at risk for that.
