I agree 100% but why be some ******* like OP discouraging people from strength training on a bodybuilding forum?

Being strong, or rather training to be strong requires a strong mind too which is impressive
Yeah up to a certain point. When it hinders your health or you start risking injury then you should stop doing it. Too many idiots do not realize this though until it is too late.

I am trying to understand what the overall benefit is. Where have I told anybody in this thread to stop strength training pal?

The stronger you are the bigger/more jacked you are. I know it sounds crazy but some people in a bodybuilding forum are actually interested in getting stronger/bigger.

The only way it is an accomplishment is if you achieve something from it, which most people do not.

How about personal accomplishments? People train for many reasons, if striving for strength is what gets someone motivated why is that wrong? I understand the risk for injury however training properly for strength actually decreases the risk of injury.

You have more confidence. You feel more dominant/superior. Can possibly attract a mate.

imo the adrenaline rush from setting a new max is on par with the endorphin rush when achieving a juicy ass upper body pump, well almost anyway.

I don't really touch more then 2 plates anymore. I prefer to hit higher reps and/or more sets. Shorten the rest periods, and do super sets, drop sets, etc.

I always trained for strength until worked out with a friend who does Arnold's workout (Super sets & high volume.) Despite being stronger in the 1-5 rep ranges I got sh!t on with that type of workout. After abandoning strength training entirely I doubt if I've lost much on my squat and deadlift. My bench press has improved and I can move more weight for more reps now (Haven't tested 1RM). My arms (Always a weak point) also drastically improved when I stopped moving heavy weight with them. Usually use a 15-20 rep range.

If need be I can demolish arms or shoulders with a couple of 10lb dumb bells. Higher reps, drop sets, super sets, giant sets, shorter rest periods, focused contraction/ isometrics in various parts of the movement, etc. Most lifters would probably benefit by taking the time to back off of the weight and work in the 20-30 rep range with lighter weight and try new techniques. When I did I started blowing up.

Does it really make you more confident? Most bodybuilders are the most insecure people on planet Earth. If you are going for attracting a mate your genetics make up most of that. If you have ****ty genetics then your next best bet is to make a lot of money.

Nobody however there is a benefit to being strong and big.In that you have something over the next man that isn't strong or big.Being big you have a more alpha presence more intimidating less likely to get in a fight.Being strong you can handle yourself better pick heavy objects up with ease think moving a washing machine shopping bags a set of draws etc.Not saying its a big deal if you don't lift heavy just saying it is an advantage just like being wealthy fit or good looking.

I think you need to strength train in the 1-5 rep range when your scrawny to add size then once your happy with how you look lean just work in the 10-15 range and maintain your look and do cardio to stay healthy.

I still need to cut down and bulk/cut 3-4 times before I'm happy.. was skinny-fat for way too long.

There's definitely benefits IMO. You look better, better at recreational sports, being strong is convientent often.
Starting Weight 215, 25% BF
Short Term Goal: 10% BF 160
Long Term Goal: A Lean 205!!

Doing push ups, sit ups, pull ups, add in some burpees if you need to lose weight. As well as being active everyday and eating a healthy diet are the main components to staying healthy. Your health is truly what matters in life and until you lose it most people do not realize it. All this strength training BS is not important.

muscles don't equate to fighting ability. it actually hinders you. if you wanna be a good fighter, take up MMA.
