While I agree people that take this kinda stuff 100% serious are dumb; I think it's important to have the mindset of life or death while in the movement/exercise itself, considering most miscers don't even lift I can't imagine they'd understand this.
If you truly want to push your body past what it's already capable of doing easily, you have to put yourself in a fight or flight mode. We don't live in life or death scenarios frequently anymore (most of us at least) so we have to trick the mind through various means to get to this point. Why do you think strongman/powerlifters sniff smelling salts before big lifts?
Also not everyone has the same level of motivation to just hit the gym regularly. I mean if any of these videos saves even just 1 life of an overweight person by pushing them into the gym, who are you all to knock it down?
At the end of the day though, much like Arnold once said in Pumping Iron, it's important to be able to have a laugh about it all and understand everything in perspective. It's not the end of the world if you don't get a 1 rep max on a squat but when you're in the movement itself, to truly push yourself, you have to have that mindset.

If you're doing that fight or flight stuff in the gym recreationally tho... Son.
Nothing wrong with getting amped up and focused but its not fight or flight

How much you squat? I get what that guy is saying. Not everyone will. You don't have to be cringy but for optimal fast gains you have to be a little crazy sometimes.

Currently do 135lb x 10 each leg on them and snatch grip deadlift 405x 5 at the moment. I like snatch grips as they recruit the quads nicely as its a bigger ROM almost like a squat/deadlift hybrid.
I agree you have to be crazy etc sometimes.
But when you look at programs like 5/3/1 or the cube method there's very little craziness its all tapered and consistent effort across the board. Its a marathon not a sprint nomsayin

I've always thought this was corny as hell
Do these people actually buy into what they're posting? Is it just an act because they think it will gain them attention?
Its almost as if they're prophisizing like some cult religious leader and people eat this chit up.
So you have to ask yourself who's dumber? The false prophet or the idiot that follows him

Tbh these kind of youtubers are the reason I watch only powerlifter channels because they at least have useful instructional videos/tips a lot of the time.
Better than watching these 160lb twinks and their drama.

The reason this phenomenon exists is because success with little effort has always been about appealing to the masses.
Unfortunately with our respective cultures the masses have little to no intellectual integrity; drawing appeal from bright lights, fast paced oversaturated editing, quotations from glorified celebrities, and mainstream, conformist ideals/aesthetics.
And thanks to the advent of the internet it's even easier to appeal to this mass, constantly consuming market as opposed to investing time in contacts and developing your business inside a niche. The prevalence and subsequently high exposure of those who have been successful through this medium have only propagated the issue and ultimately led to many carbon copies, all with the same-but-different brand of apparel, quotations and social media content.

If people bring that attitude to anything they do I think it's awesome. It's the mindset to have to get things done.
.....however, that doesn't entail their IG/FB cataloging of every workout they have. That's for show. So I hear you on that.

Everything in our current culture is represented in an over-dramatic fashion. Sporting events are advertised with dramatic music and represented in a way that would make you think the two teams were going to war, not playing with a ball. TV shows take an insignificant event and put dramatic music behind it to elicit an emotional response from the audience.

My youtube is all cars, guitars and politics. The fitness channels are so lame... either fake natties posing to EDM like it hasn't been done before or some fat ugly powerlifters teaching you how to half squat for the 500th time.

When people don't have much going for them in their lives, they make up a new struggle. In this case it's lifting. It's life or death because there's no real life of death struggles in the lives of most people. It's the same way people create relationship drama. It's life or death there too because they're bored.
Boredom is a funny thing and it creates weak men/women and only really exists during good times when there isn't much to worry about.

Agreed.
They should make these videos about curing diseases, or solving world hunger, or doing thingsoutside of your own vanity.
Only then would they make sense. I used to be guilty af myself.
With that said though, to anyone who uses fitness as an outlet to do good for others - I can respect that.. though I don't totally look down on people who aren't more selfless, I just admire it.
edit: This is all my opinion and outlook, of course.
