It's -20 C here today(-4 F). Glad I'm a 9 to 5 office worker. But seriously I've been snowshoeing up mountains in -40 degree weather. You just have to dress appropriately.

My Dad is 64 still farming. Talked to him this morning, it was -6F this morning and windy. He was out there at 3:15am, as always, driving his crap scraper around the barn and my mom was out there sweeping up waste feed the cows left (after chores she goes to her 9-5 job)

My elderly mom is tougher than you OP. Sad, just sad.

Dunno where OP lives, but in warm places it's physically impossible to buy clothes that are suitable for the once-a-year type weather events. You're gonna mail order clothes from Canada for hundreds of dollars so you can work one day a year? Or risk being called a pussy by staying inside?

It's a line between not being "pussy" and not being stupid for me. Yeah. I could still be out there working until I collapse. But because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD. It's like going to the gym when you're sick. I've gone to the gym working out through light-headedness and shyt only to find it hurt me way more than it helped and it was stupid. I've lifted with injuries. There's a point you have to listen to your body or you will harm yourself. That on top of barely getting any work done is how I am justifying this to myself.

But, because I did dip out, I feel bad. I'm glad I did because I think it would be stupid to stay and put myself through that AND because work was moving 10x slower - but I feel bad about leaving my crew there (though they said they definitely wouldn't judge me and would also leave if they didn't need the money badly). Which is why when I talk to my boss next, fired or not, I'm going to tell him I don't want to be paid for today.

It is dude. None of us know what we're doing enough to do it ourselves. When the boss isn't around, he gets a lot of phone calls from us. Nobody on this crew could do the job without the boss (well some claim they could but not to the boss's standards/the way he does things). i fukin smh when people who been living all their lives in cold cities will spend fortune on iphone crap but wont invest in good winter clothing and keep whining about cold all winter.

get a nice down jacket like Woolrich parka..this sh!t is built for alaskan pipeline workers: (its $400 but on amazon it was for $200 on sale)




i just wore a plain ck tee inside it in 15 Fahrenheit in NY yesterday and it was all warm and toasty.

order some thick long johns on amazon.

37 is actually probably doable in a hoodie for me. SRS.

Its actually pretty cold out today in Boston though like single digits this morning and teens right now. We don't nearly get it as bad as the midwest. 30's and 40's are common winter temps here. North Dakota its like -30 which I don't ever think I have seen.

It's doable for me in a hoodie too but not with the wind and misting man. I had a neoprene ski mask, beanie, 2 long sleeves, a hoodie, and a coat. Long johns, winter boxers, and jeans, 2 pairs of socks and gloves. The only part of me that was unbearable was the hands and feet because moisture kept soaking up my shoes and gloves. I had 2 different pairs of shoes I switched out of. My gloves are shyt but I don't have anything else and I just bought them. They'd be fine if they weren't wet.

There's no reason you shouldn't know the answer to those questions after two months. Siding is literally one of the easiest things to learn, that and roofing.

Its actually kind of funny, your story sounds exactly like my brother's crew that he leads. Only reason I know its not is that its colder here today.

If your job requires you to possibly work outside year round, you need to be prepared for it. It's that simple. Get good boots, pants, jacket, gloves, etc. It's in investment that will pay you back, literally.

A coworker called in today saying she can't drive to work she has crappy tires. Maybe go buy some tires so you can make it to your job.

It's not that hard people. Life is much easier when you prepare yourself.

Well I don't know because I started building a deck, then we did some siding that was part masonite and had some weird pattern. Then we built another deck. Then we did facia. So this is like my first and a half job for me with regular siding. And I'm really the cut guy. I usually get measurements yelled to me to cut and I cut em out. It's my favorite position and since I'm a manlet, there's a lot of times everyone else has to actually reach and put the siding up where I can't on the ladder. And I always double shot the damn nail gun. So I don't really see how it all works. I've got a concept but I haven't had enough experience to do it alone (I mean... I could do it my own way but I don't know if it would be proper - if it were my house I would run it how I'd like it to be ran regardless of getting all caught up on staggering).

And I'm in kansas. If you're in kansas, it could possibly be your brother
