Vacation in India

Any of you brahs done a vacation in India? I want to go somewhere out of my comfort zone and experience a completely different culture. I've got 18 days to play with in March/April.

I want to see taj mahal, some cities in rajasthan (udaipur, jodphur, jaipur), tiger safari then down to goa or kerala for beaches. I want to use the trains to get around.

How are white americans treated over there? Is English widely spoken? Anyone got any tips?

Look man...as someone who used to live relatively comfortably in the Middle East and has spent over a month in India in various locales, I can safely say that it is one of the last places you wanna go on Earth. If you choose to go, you'll be WAY out of your comfort zone unless you're a Navy Seal or something. Be prepared to chit yourself relentlessly & explode from both ends from food poisoning (happened to me & 70+% of visitors), be harassed repeatedly, & have people try to cheat you at every turn. English is fairly widely spoken, & I think whites are treated OK but don't be expecting to pull any Indian girls or anything. I recommend Kerala & Mumbai if you do decide to go. Keep an open mind, don't trust anyone trying to sell you anything or take you anywhere, & DO NOT stay at anything less than a 5 star hotel. A 5 star there is relatively cheap & basically the only place a foreigner can hope to survive reasonably comfortably (srs). I recommend the Trident. Stay safe op, & may God have mercy on your angus & soul if you do make this terrible choice.

I just did a project about the culture in India.

I think I made everyone decide to never visit there. I was just stating facts about their culture, with much of it said from the locals.

I went to India for vacation not long ago. I went because I had been there with work but not had a chance to explore. I very much enjoyed the rawness of the overall experience, seeing the very wide disparity between rich and poor all in one place. The hardest part of the whole thing was the air quality (especially in Delhi) which seemed like breathing a bonfire, as well as the routine blackouts that occurred in and around dinner time almost each night. As a white westerner, you must treat each and every human interaction as if you're being scammed, because you probably are.

The Taj Mahal was by far the highlight of the trip.

Upon my return to upper middle class lifestyle, the experience has left me with a new found appreciation for everything I enjoy on a daily basis - this alone is a solid reason to go to India for vacation.

Shorts are 'not a thing' in India LOL, SRS. It's unconventional. I just brought a single pair of jeans for the whole stay. I packed carry-on and wore a pair of Wolverine 1000-mile boots for the whole time. I stayed in a nice 4-5 stars hotel right near Connaught place, New Delhi which was reasonably posh.

girl i knew went there got horrific food poisoning
best mate went and stayed at a pretty nice hotel ended up getting staph infection, boils all over his body
