My phone can do anything a watch can do functional wise.
I get the fashion aspect of it, but I don't get why a watch needs to have all the bells and whistles they come with if it is just for fashion and is an otherwise redundant tool for all of the other options. It seems like a really simple watch would look better anyways.

I kind of like the look of the skeleton watches or whatever where you can see all the insides and stuff. But just lol at paying thousands of dollars for a bracelet.

And, talk about really convenient is a smart watch. They're pretty cool for easy convenience of seeing what is going on (texts, calls, emails) at just a glance. Easily tell if you need to stop what you're doing to reply to somebody.
I don't think they're very durable for me yet though. Pretty sure I'd break one the first day.

The automatics that some guy built using 600 parts the size of a pin head that keep perfect time are a little mindblowing.

I picked up a Garmin vivoactive hr on black friday for $160. So far its been pretty hardy and its waterproof to around 50 meters. Its really handy, I get a couple hundred emails a day and like you said I can easily ignore most and only reply to the priority ones.

Appreciation of guns and watches are similar.
Both can be expertly designed and constructed machines that perform a simple but important task. One marks time with precision. The other fires a projectile with precision. They both can look cool too.
And unlike a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, we middle-class blokes can afford them without sacrificing our retirement.
Budget?
I bought a Luminox a couple of years ago and beat the crap out of it. Still ticking...
Less than $200. I like the G-shocks, but they're so damn big.
Tritium tubes aren't cheap.
Here's one alternative by Luninox with a Swiss quartz movement (better shock resistance) and a mineral crystal (instead of sapphire).
[img]https://i.imgur.com/T5wRt94.jpg[mg]
Not bad, but I can do without the exaggerated numbers.

I get the fashion aspect of it, but I don't get why a watch needs to have all the bells and whistles they come with if it is just for fashion and is an otherwise redundant tool for all of the other options. It seems like a really simple watch would look better anyways.

Also handy when exercising and it's just right there super light and out of the way on your wrist, and waterproof and you can ram it into stuff, etc...not so much with a phone

Sometimes I want to know the time when I'm sitting beside a girl on a date, but I don't want to pull my phone out and show the face where she can see it.
Seeing the date on my wrist instead of reaching in my pocket is handy when writing.
Also, a lot of times when I'm on the lake or around water (very drunk), and don't want to be handling my phone where it can be dropped.
It's sort of like loading/unloading your guns every day. The more time you spend handling your phone the more likely you are to drop it/fuk it up.
