yeah but this is an inherent problem in a democracy. Eventually special interests take over. FACT. Look at the earliest democracies through history and you'll see similarities.

We have to live with it as active citizens if we want to maintain democracy. And we should as I believe it's still the best way to govern in current times.

I would have fought against financial interests controlling the government to the degree they do. Corporations are now the most powerful entity in the world. That should have been checked, since now they can dictate your reality from top to bottom. I think Thomas Jefferson even warned about that.

Well you can say the same thing for anything that ever happened. So it's not very helpful here. We're trying to learn from the past so we don't make the same mistakes again in the future.

It's about having moral fibre. It's about looking at the long-term consequences of your actions. Thinking critically about how different outcomes may occur as a result. Easier said than done but that's how you should build a good future for your kids and grandkids.

given what you know now, the ability we have to self educate via the internet etc we can come to these conclusions, but the reality is back then we would all have acted the same way they did because no one really knew better.

baby boomers, my parents included, think that being born into and growing up in one of the most prosperous periods of history was somehow due to their skill and hard work. they are wilfully ignorant of the carnage they have left behind for the generations to follow.

i no longer talk about with or take advice on financial matters from my parents because it is clear they have no fukking idea what they are talking about.

i have a masters degree in accounting and economics, work in finance, and they still deem in necessary to offer money advice. i simply nod and say thanks and continue to tip half my pay into savings and an index fund.

Working part time @ 20 hours a week, for 2 months, at minimum wage in 1975 = $4,306 in 2016 dollars.


It gets a lot worse if you go back to 1970.

The only thing the BB'ers had going for them was their dad and mom whooped their asses when they got too bad, these milenials have never even been told no before.
I mean to be fair they didn't magically create a strong economy.

War is the best way to increase production and employment, while also creating demand. If you win a war then you also get the spoils, and the USA was in a very unique position. Every other western country had been bombed to pieces and needed to rebuild. The USA had tons of metal factories.

And they've killed the freedom in american businesses. They introduced so many regulations in the past 40 years, that it's virutally impossible to start your own business in some industries by yourself. This was intentional, to decrease competition against their baby boomer businesses.

When they finally slow down the internet and partition it up between different companies for fastlanes, which is the biggest "river" of cultural exchange (it furthers innovation basically, the faster speeds go, the bigger files we can use and such, thus the higher quality etc.), these ass holes will have the markets cornered because they're too lazy to innovate themselves and dont want competition. Fuking lmao at the advancement of medical technology. Sure these old fuks will live a lot longer but given their chitty attitude and how they treat people in service jobs, its best to leave them alone altogether.

Also, I agree with the labor participation rate at all time high. 95 million people are not in the labor force and my ass they want to enter again to put up with trash customers all of the time. Underemployment is legit seeing as I have to go outside every now and then to get carts at the grocery store I work at just because some of the baggers are middle aged and don't have the energy like they used to.



edit: its gonna be hilarious as hell to see how these retired jackasses will try to sell their homes. You can buy a house in Detroit for $100 I believe but Detroit is a godforsaken city that's no better than the wild west towns that was put to rest when railroads was built past them.

Across the country millennials are living in apartments, condos, and their parent's house aren't they? Can't save money for a mortgage when that there $20k student debt gotta be paid off first. But wait, what about that new car? Ah well, I think my car can go for 10 more years.
