Same.

Too many people projecting their chitty-ass personalities on innocent kids these days. Same goes for pushy parents who envisage their kids playing for Manchester United. They mould the kid onto howtheywant them to turn out. Hijack their childhood with training sessions etc. Turns out the kid might have grown up to be the next nobel prize winner but instead plays for a Sunday league team at best and carries nothing but resentment for his diappointed father.

Let them fukking develop at their own pace I say.

If they show a spontaneous interest in stuff then encourage it.

Why would you automatically assume that the default option would be to sit in front of the tv all day?

When I was a kid I was never indoors.

I went out to PLAY with my friends.

PLAY

Not train.

Actually some of that is kinda the duty/responsibility of parents.

If I have a daughter she will be getting pepper spray or a taser.

If I have a son I will be teaching him kickboxing from a young age.

You assume the worst of the parent. They are the childs first guides and mentors.

Not sure what the point is you're trying to make here.

Of course they are their first guides and mentors. And as their first guides and mentors, I feel it would be negative to indoctrinate a child with a negative and violent mindset. I'm not at all talking about moddycoddling a child, but how about looking at what natural gifts they have, and what they enjoy doing, and try to develop and encourage those before turning them into a seething Kimbo Slice ??

hardly ever hear anyone say "I'd love to my kids to discover and enjoy astronomy".

...but I hear too many *******s say "I'll teach my kid how to kick ass" before they even have kids.

How pathetically negative and regressive that mindset really is. Straight away from a young age they are skeptical and tainted. No wonder the world never gets better. Violent, simple minded people are simply passing on their chitty subconscious ape-like mentality.

Just LMFAO. LOL.

Just ROFLMAO @ the chitstain on the underpants of earth called humanity.

^^^^ you are talking like I'm telling everyone to take their children to cage fighting school LOL

If your child is getting bullied and they are unable to defend themselves I would send my child to a group class to learn to defend themselves.

When I was growing up my parents sent me to range of activities swimming, dancing, gymnastic, net ball, singing, horse riding etc my parents allow me to decide what I wanted to continue with.

If you do not give your children access to range of activities than how would they know what they like??

There's a difference between encouraging your kids to play outdoors/live a healthier lifestyle and pushing them into a specific career path though. But that's derailing from your original question anyway

It's not necessarily that simple though is is. Can you guarantee that fighting back against a bully will not make matters much worse for your kid? Why do you assume that, because they went to self defence class, they will be able to execute their training in a real life environment?

The best way to learn how to fight is to actually have real fights. Wihch defeats the whole object.

The best way to protect yourself is to avoid the fight in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, if either of my sons find an interest in Judo/Karate/Rugby or any other discipline, I will be taking them straight to the local club.

Teach them to fight? No

Teach them to defend themselves if they ever get in a situation to fight? Yea, but also teach them to avoid fighting if they can and to walk away from situation.

I got bullied in school but the next day I would beat up the bully. This got me in trouble and I focused more on violence than school which eventually lowered my grades.

Just take your child to judo or bjj classes, great sports that build confidence, teach respect, get them fit, make friends, have fun and train them to be able to defend themselves if necessary.

Exactly this.

Could have been acing those grades instead of obsessing over violence.

You should teach your kids resilience, that with rights come responsibilities. That working hard just gives them more choices not a guarantee that things will come easy; that not everybody will like them and they won't like everybody but that's fine. I teach them that there are many ways to deal with aggression and they all start with self control.

They also know that I think being fit and strong mentally as well as physically is worthwhile.

If my kid gets hit I'd want to know what they did to provoke it and how they dealt with it and if they fought back that they used the minimum required to get control of the situation

So yes, my kids took martial arts, they have never been in any situation they needed to use physical force to my knowledge, they know I would prefer them to walk away but if they retaliate they better have a damn good reason. And I would expect them to be able to reconcile and resolve after

Yeah I expect a lot of my kids.
