If you raise your kid right no one will bully him anyway. Bullies always single out weaklings they KNOW wont hit back. If your kid is involved with sports and has self respect chances are no one will attack him. If he sits in his room watching anime all day you have failed as a parent already
If you live in the "hood" you should worry about moving your family to a better place before you teach your kid self defence srs

definitely, and i will teach them to fight if anyone that f***s with them. i was bullied from elementary to highschool and dropped out because of getting bullied. if i could go back in time i would physically fight back everytime doesn't matter if i go to juvy.
i'm sure if i was put through boxing or mma i would've had more confidence in standing up for myself. instead of being scared ****less whenever someone touched me

My kids gonna do Judo then go into jiu jitsu then around 12 they gotta pick up boxing or kickboxing.
Well thats what i want just hoping my kids would like it to, but i will try to make it as fun as possible so they want to do it.

Personally I would encourage my kid to do some judo or another martial art(as far as I know judo has the most competitive scene for small kids here in Germany) as a sport. If he/she is more interested in something else, I would be okay as well.

I got tough from playing sports like hockey, tackle football, soccer, and baseball. Just roughhousing and wrestling with my buddies, my Dad, my Uncles, and my cousins. A much older kid bloodied my nose in first grade for allegedly destroying his sandcastle. In 3rd grade a kid hit me in the face with his backpack which had a metal lunchbox in it and knocked me out. Each time I went to the teachers and really wasn't scared of the kids. My parents never taught me "to fight". They instilled values in me and taught me to be smart and clever and look out for myself. Idiots fight. I know guys in HS that got their teeth knocked out in stupid bar fights.
Summary: No, don't teach your kids to fight. People shouldn't fight it's one of the dumbest things you can do.

Learning a martial art isn't solely for "being able to defend yourself"
I look at it as an activity that drives multiple positive outcomes:
Participate in a sport
Learn situational awareness
Learn how to stick to something and progress (belts/skill level)
be able to defend yourself
If your kid goes around instigating things then he/she is a punk and needs to be taught how to behave regardless of whether or not they know a martial art or not.

I am absolutely going to teach my daughter how to defend herself.
It would be nice to pretend the world is full of nice people, and everyone cares about each other but the truth is that it is not. People are going to harass you/antagonize and sometimes come after you. I want her to be prepared to handle herself.
I would easily choose her getting suspended and being unhurt than her getting a broken nose or other injuries from a bully.

Kids should at least know how to defend themselves as trouble will follow them even when they've done nothing wrong. That's just the nature of bullies. Nevertheless, I have to admit it comes a time when knowing to run away may be the best way out.

both my boys already know to cover up
move on their feet
back and forth
duck
and throw some mean combinations to the head
tap tap tap
jab jab with left, cross with right
duck
watch your feet, your stance
one is 4 and one is 8
and recently the older ones friends had been bullied by an 11 year old, and I asked him does he bully you
he goes no
the guy is a loser, I just laugh at him
asked him what would happen if he tried to kick your arse
he literally burst out laughing
said Im not scared of him
good boy, daddy is proud

Teach them to defend themselves. Defense fighting also instills confidence which is a major bonus.
Also teach them non-aggression, meaning, never start the aggression.

Too many people projecting their chitty-ass personalities on innocent kids these days. Same goes for pushy parents who envisage their kids playing for Manchester United. They mould the kid onto howtheywant them to turn out. Hijack their childhood with training sessions etc. Turns out the kid might have grown up to be the next nobel prize winner but instead plays for a Sunday league team at best and carries nothing but resentment for his diappointed father.
Let them fukking develop at their own pace I say.
If they show a spontaneous interest in stuff then encourage it.

Yes, every male member of society should take some MMA/boxing/Karate or other combat sport as a child. Not only for how to defend himself and the females in his family, but also to learn discipline and physical health.
Girls shouldn't. Maybe some basic self-defense skills, but really, if the men of the world start rising up to their natural state of being protectors and defenders, then women wouldn't have to worry about that stuff.

Thus unlamented let me die;

Just NO
Last day of school fifth grade for my daughter, before she left out the door.
I grabbed her hair, firmly full hand of hair and started pulling her down.
She first started yelling saying stoooooop.
I kept pulling harder, she grabbed my wrist with both hands of hers, pivoted down and then twisted it to the right.
Could have literally broken my wrist if she wanted to.
She will break a wrist anyone tries to pull her hair. Boy/Girl matters not.
She knows what to do.

Of course you should. Everyone should learn how to protect themselves. It's really a shame that safety is taken for granted these days. In fact, if I had children, one of the first things I'd also teach them is how to administer First aid.

99% of the "bullying" parents complain about is kids being kids. Kids are mean, but they're kids. They're self centered and as they grow older they will mature and learn how to behave. If they don't then that will be dealt with at that point. Bullying in elementary is just "he did this, so i did it back!" and that occurs 19,000 times a day... at least in my second period.

So I have no choice.
This is the same education system that told my 4yr old not to recite the alphabet using the proper words (ABC) and that he should regress to pronouncing as phoenetically as 'abk'.
... because that is what the syllabus dictated.
So I implore you to shut the fuk up. Since you know not of what you speak.
I've been on the recieving end of being 'obliged ' to compete as a child. After a while I realised that what I was doing was not actually what I wanted.
Thankfully I didn't lose too much of my childhood because of it.
