Before you answer, apart from being a genuine FA, my biggest reason is to SAVE money so that I can afford to put down a mortgage on my own place rather than wasting money on rent to pay someone else's mortgage!


Cliffs on my situation:

- OP is 25 years old and has been working about 1 year
- OP works 10 minutes from parents home hence lives rent-free for now
- OP makes 40,000/year (take home 2400/month) & saves 1500/month
- Clearly OP can afford rent, but would rather put down a 30K deposit on a 300,000 retirement home
- That 10% deposit would take OP around 2 years of saving in mum's basement (27)
- OP is FA so doesn't have GF, friends to get yucky with, works with all males
- Moving out would mean OP saves ~500 MAX with rent, council tax, bills, food, petrol, etc



Honestly, is there any point me moving out? I know some of you will say you can't put a price on freedom and independence and all that crap, but what would I possibly do renting a place that I can't at home? It's not like I have girls over or host parties anyway... so why give up the luxury of my parents home where I live with central heating thermostat, wall-mounted 50 inch 4K TVs, PS4, high-pressure shower, memory-foam king size mattress, etc, just to move into a cold, unfurnished, apartment living alone where I have to buy all of that stuff and not save a penny myself while paying some other cucks mortgage via rent? Genuinely makes no sense!


Isn't it better to save 100K cash by 30 living at home and put deposits down on a few houses and get "young care-free dreamers" to pay off MY MORTGAGES via rent so that I can retire and live off that passive income?

Why give up the prospects of retiring young by living at home modestly now to live a truly GOAT life travelling the world at 35-40, just for a very average "independent" life now?

What even are the benefits of moving out? Making friends? Learning independence? Are those things really worth working until 65-70 for? Really Misc?

It honestly depends on your circumstances. If you're doing it to save money/pay down debt then you're never too old. If you're doing it because you're a lazy manchild who doesn't want any responsibility then yes.

I live at home.
I made $87K US dollars last year. Still live at home. and pay the rent. 4 bedroom home and garage. I buy the groceries and pay for virtually everything.

You are FA now that you live with parents, as soon as you buy your own place you will be attractive to gold diggers, what happens in 5 years when unmarried chick can take 50% of everything via common law marriage?

Also your situation will change if you end up living with a GF in your new house.

I always wanted to buy a property with no mortgage at all but I think the smart money rents.

If you're on dat rotting time, don't want to socialize or smash, and your parents don't mind then I don't see a problem. People who are knocking you for being financially responsible probably aren't worth your time.

There is nothing wrong with it.

My situation is similar, except I only make $50,000 USD equivalent in current exchange rate.

Parents don't charge me rent because they don't have a mortgage anymore, but I do pay for their bills, or if they want a flight to go away or their car insurance or big costs when required.

The luxury of home is way more than I would get renting tbh, do you feel the same?

Have you found there's a stigma attached to living at home at 29? Do your friends/girls judge you for it? Have you got a GF, or what do you do when you pull a girl?

Nah, I started on 36,000 last year and got a raise to 40,000 at the start of the new year. I am due another one in 4-6 months time to about 42-45K.

While I could get a better job in London, I honestly wouldn't save a penny in Year 1. It would require 100,000 salary to save what I could save on 45K in Wales.

100K is perfectly possible in London... but it would take 5 years experience to save 20K cash per year because of the high cost of living, tube, council tax, bills, socialising, courses, etc. I could save 100K post-tax CASH in Wales by that time, living at home!

Nah, considering the world is overpopulated and real estate prices are crazy, it's pretty rational to live with your parents. That way, you don't have to shackle yourself down to the system with the debt from mortgage and you can help your parents around. Most oldies actually like having their children around anyway.

Eventually as you get older you realize this. People go do there own thing, get married, get stuck, die. You may get to stick with a few buddies but even then you'll be 'scheduling' time with the 'bros'.

Well maybe apart from Indians and Pakistani people, but I know that their Asian culture is a bit different and they live at home until marriage generally. But all the White Welsh people I know live out, even if it's paycheck to paycheck
