I haven't read entire thread but I'll just clear this up for every idiot in this thread who can't think outside their own culture.

In some countries, you give both the father and mother's name to the child but as two separate last names, not hyphented. For example, Child Rodriguez Solano. The first name is always the father's name and the last name is always the mother's name.

Then when the child marries, they only give the first last name and the mother's last name just doesn't get inherited. So say Child marries Sloot Smith Duran.

Their child would have the name X Rodriguez Smith.

Entienden?

I live outside US and am married to somebody from a different culture so we'll probably give them both last names just so our kids aren't weird. I'm like the only one with only one last name, looks really strange when I'm shown on a list with other people.

Just to blow your minds some more, women also don't change their name when they get married. get over it.

You get what I'm saying. You would also teach your sons a song to sing at parties to tell your lineage to other people to continue your legacy.

I don't even like when wives refuse to take their husbands' name, that's selfish feminist garbage, but this is insane. You better stand firm, your kid gets your name, end of discussion.

Don't play stupid games when it comes to naming your kids, you'll only succeed in ruining their life. If you do this, your kid will have to deal with everyone asking if they're adopted...and who knows, your kid might wonder about it too. Don't make him the only kid in school whose parents didn't want him to have their last name.

Spell the name properly too.
