I don't live in fear, but I am aware of my surroundings, and I try not to be out alone at night. I think those are probably good for things for both men and women to do though. I also wouldn't say that being a woman makes me feel super vulnerable or anything.

And if someone did attack me, I think my best chance would be to try to run away. I don't know how to fight (and fists can't beat knives or guns), but I'm a very fast runner.

exactly, no way to do this unless they weren't armed or they had no real intention of harming you at the time (ie just trying to rob you).
Stun guns are the go to choice here. They might hurt but you're not seriously wounding somebody that you don't even know was going to hurt you.

yeah there are a lot of low quality models out there. That's why you have to invest a bit of money and get a solid model.

You act like they're just standing there letting you do this. I can tell you've never engaged in any real combat - if you're close enough to attack them, they're close enough to attack you. They've also probably planned their attack while you're forced to react within a couple seconds. Simply trying to get your knife out might be too slow depending on how they're planning to attack you. If they're just trying to wrestle and rape you then you have a good chance, but if they're going for a kill or disabling you, it's an uphill battle, and that's as a man. I recommend seeing if there are any good self defense instructors in your area. A lot of them are scam artists so be sure to check references.

Problem is with guys who have done serious time. I had a prison guard buddy who said some prisoners would purposefully 'protest' cell extractions, so they'd use tear gas and remove them. Over time you can build up a pretty high tolerance to it.
