Can confirm, its a meat factory. Warehouse life, when its hot its HOT, and when its cold its COLD. Boxes in all shapes, weights, and sizes need to be sorted with SPEED and ACCURACY.

Speaking of IT, I know there are a lot of computer guys in here. My laptop is going on 4 years old and it's been acting up lately so I need a new one. I want to future-proof it as much as possible this time.

Is there anything wrong with this laptop setup:

Alienware 17R4

Intel Core i7-7820HK (Quad-Core, 8MB Cache, Overclocking up to 4.4GHz)

17.3 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display with Tobii IR Eye-tracking

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5

16GB DDR4-2400MHz; up to 32GB (additional memory sold separately)

256GB PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)

Killer 1535 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1

I have read about heatsink and thermal paste issues with the first 17R4s but they supposedly fixed them on builds after December 6. I will eventually put 32gb ram in it but it's not worth paying Dell the markup. I also believe it has slots for more SSDs.

I am leaning towards .308 but would be up to anything, but not familar with .270 etc. I want to do extreme long range target shooting (+500 yds)

So...what is the best action for the price? (Again, I am dumping the stock) I liked the feel of ruger americans and also tikka felt pretty solid.

I don't tip furniture delivery unless it's a hard delivery (gotta go up a bunch of stairs, carry really heavy ****, etc.). I did tip my safe delivery guys $20 each, since they moved it down into the basement (I had to help though).

I'd look at a Savage 10 FCP-SR

Can be had for around $600. Nice rifle, detachable mag, and threaded barrel (crossing fingers for HPA).

I have a .270, and a nice flat shooting round, but man, the cost is pretty high. I'd go with a .308

you could check to see if a laptop supports the nvme m.2 stuff for storage... other than that, dunno, I haven't bought a laptop in over 10 years.

I think if I was doing it from scratch I'd maybe take a PPQ of those, but I'm happy with my VP9's (4,620 rounds through them, only malf was 1 FTRTB in the first 100 or so rounds)

Not srs, VP9 has the best build quality bar none. while the PPQ trigger is lighter, I like the overall trigger dynamics of the VP9 more.

Yup . . . hopefully they leave them alone. I don't think Ozark Trail openly and actively trumpets the similarity to YETI, so maybe they will keep it on the down low?

If you're okay with the price tag its a monster laptop. That being said...

Do you NEED the laptop? If you travel with it often, for work, etc.. .etc... get it. But if its sit at your home. Get a desktop.

Why?
1) Laptops inherently by design will always run hotter = Things break and perform bad
2) Unless your CEO 10k/day Id like to say saving a few hundred is useful to everyone. And the Price/Performance ratio for a laptop compared to a desktop just isn't there.
3) Much harder to customize and upgrade (albeit not impossible, just more of a pain)

1) Laptops inherently by design will always run hotter = Things break and perform bad
2) Unless your CEO 10k/day Id like to say saving a few hundred is useful to everyone. And the Price/Performance ratio for a laptop compared to a desktop just isn't there.
3) Much harder to customize and upgrade (albeit not impossible, just more of a pain)
It does have to be a laptop. I'm going to use it for music production and I will be putting Pro Tools, Fruity Loops, Cubase, EZ Drummer and probably Kontakt on it. I will need to hook it up to my keyboards when I'm mixin up fire, and I have keyboards upstairs and downstairs. I'll also use it for general home computer use and don't want to be tied to one room in the house. I have a somewhat regular jam with a few guys and they always come to my place but we've talked about playing in other places, and if I get a good laptop I can lay some stuff down that's portable. My keyboards ain't going anywhere. I prefer to play guitar but nobody else does keys or drums so I get stuck with that.

I know a laptop is much lower spec and less upgradable than a desktop, which is why I want to go ahead and get something somewhat loaded that I won't have to worry about for a while. I haven't played any games in years but I may start at some point, and want to have that option too.

I have a Lenovo 13" Yoga with a 64gb SSD drive for basic use, as well as a 15.6" Asus hooked up to a keyboard and large monitor setup.

I know these are the general sentiments, but I've still always preferred a laptop simply because I don't have a home desk and there isn't really a convenient spot to put one where I would want to be, and for mobility. But I don't do a whole lot of high power computing anyway. Mostly web and downloading stuff.
