I would be more judgmental if the parent was overweight, if the kid was overweight or if the kid was hyper/mental. Other than that I would just shake my head and worry more about why I'm standing in this fast food store eating $hit food.

My kids didn't drink soda. As far as apple juice goes, it's better than soda. Parents usually know that you cut juice with 1/2 water.

Incorrect. The soda uses processed high fructose corn syrup. The apple juice contains natural fructose. There are also vitamins and minerals in the apple juice. Where the soda has zero.

There is no need to ever give a kid soda. Its just flavored sugar water.

This child can barely speak and is likely still in diapers. Giving anything harmful to a baby or a toddler is wrong and poor parenting.
Tech is also bad for you, but you seem to have no qualms about injecting foreign matter into your body. Where do we draw the line? And again, no one has been able to tell me why soda is inherently bad.

The fact that
1. Op called it "child abuse"

And 2. That he wanted to go tell someone else how to parent are the only two issues here.

No one is saying it wasn't a bad choice for her to do that. Its not going to kill the kid though. Some of y'all are blowing this way the f outta proportion.

Lol @ the two that negged me .Did NOT say it was ok. I played devils advocate and said we don't know if she was having a ****ty day or was a ****ty mom and that's true.

op still should have done what he did ..which was keep his mouth shut and mind his business.

Now If I saw REAL child abuse going on then hell yes I would speak up and call the police no questions asked.

Under op's definition of "child abuse" Y'all could say giving a kid fried chicken, too many carbs (bc carbs turn into glucose) or not enough veggies qualifies lol.

I don't know why you would ever introduce your child to soda. That chit is nothing but bad for you. And your child will never crave it, if they never get that first sip. My children will be happily soda free. I drink soda like once every few months, so there won't even be any soda in the house to tempt them. I see my nephew always begging for soda and it's like, he wouldn't be begging for it if he never knew what it tasted like in the first place

Don't just say no. Tell them why its bad and give them healthful alternatives. In time your kid will learn to make healthy decisions for themselves. It also helps to serve as an example. You kids will most definitely, follow your lead.

I started this thread to find out what other people thought. The thread title is literally me asking for outside opinions. I shared my experience and after recieving other opinons, I admitted repeatedly that my opinion was out of touch. The goal of this thread was achieved and that is how we learn and grow as people. To suggest that I should have just known the correct age, despite not being a parent, is silly and counterproductive to growth as a person. I gave me view, asked for opinons, and learned. Thats a great thing

1. I said "I felt like I was watching child abuse" I did not say "I witnessed the legal definiton of child abuse" it was a figure of speech to communicate that what I witnessed seemed insane to me, then admitted maybe it wasn't. I didn't call child services, it was an expression of my shock. Perhaps I could have chosen less dramatic words

2. I said it crossed my mind to speak up but stated how I thought better of it and did not speak up. What's the problem there? I did the right thing after considering my options, which should be done with every decision we have

I don't know what you've posted in this thread but clearly you've said something to put you the defensive and to try to push the blame on me

I started this thread to look for outside opinions, considered those opinions, and admitted I was ill-informed. What's the problem with that? That's how we learn, this isn't a court of law

Thanks for the neg btw, would you have rather me have not created this thread and just continued to think the mother was outrageous? I find it interesting that you complain about being negged for your opinion after having negged me for mine. No I didn't neg you back last night and don't see a reason to neg you back now for your opinion, that would be silly. Whats wrong with open discussion?

I still don't see the benefit to giving a 2 year old soda, but after consideration maybe there is also no downside. I wont recommend it to anyone but I won't question their judgement moving forward either

So its the last thing a kid needs. See thread title. And no, its not the same thing.

With adults with these attitudes running around, there's no wonder kids nowadays are so messed up.

I'd tend to agree except for one thing: Your 4 year old won't stay 4 years old forever. When you create a mental disaster, he will at some point be released onto the public, at which point his mental dysfunction becomes everybody else's problem. So you see, as long as you live in a society, its not just your business.
