I own 2 American Bullys. To basically anyone who doesn't know about them (which is 99% of people), they're "pitbulls". 1 is even a certified service/companion dog

So yes I do know alot about mislabeling with the breed which is not an excuse. My dogs would fall under "pitbull" according to your statistics

Municipal Court Judge, Francis X. Gorman (7-8-2004 Toledo, OH) stated: “Obviously the ratio of dog bites per dog versus dog population seemingly would be relevant in this case. .. Candidly, this court feels that ... Pit Bulls do not cause the most bites in the United States. Certainly the bites of mixed breed dogs far exceed those of the Pit Bull because there are many more mixed breed dogs than Pit Bulls. Moreover, even local statistics indicate that, for example, the Chow bites more frequently than the Pit Bull.” A recent study of the medical charts of minors seeking medical attention for dog bites did actually reference the breed involved (as identified by the veterinarian providing proof of rabies vaccination) to the total breed population as could reasonably be determined by administrative district records (Pediatrics, March 2006). The resulting risk index showed that German Shepherd Dogs were 5 times more likely to cause bite trauma than “pit bulls”.
I brought up mislabeling multiple times already. They don't care and refuse to acknowledge...

Well I know a few pitbull service dogs, and an ex neighbor that opened their own shelter. They have a pitbull as a pet, but obviously know how to train it. zero incidents. The coolest fukking dogs and very loving. Yes they have children.

The issue is letting most people take them in with 0 idea of how to control or train them. One of the biggest factors is giving them something to do, which almost no one does. So a breed like a pitbull can fuk people up.

I am always cautious around pitbulls because I know the owners are probably fukking useless and i don't wan to get bit. The owners play a huge role. Pitbulls can be domesticated, easily if under the correct supervision.

I too though am in awe that any one can just go and buy or rescue a pitbull. Let alone jsut keeping it caged up all day too

2. Everything me and the other poster you quoted still applies. If you dont know the power of a pitbull then lol. And yes, I would put a couple other breeds in the same category of being treated the same as an exotic dangerous animals. Including mixes.

3. Do you own a pit?? You complain about us not acknowledging the fact that some of those statistics are "mis-categorized", yet you haven't answered my question or any of my other points. Either way, whether they are mis-categorized or not, I seriously doubt you're knowledge on the subject if you do not agree pitbulls can do SERIOUS damage and more so than most other breeds of dogs. It's common sense.

The two pitbulls I've personally known were extremely sweet dogs. That has nothing to do with whether or not they should be treated like dangerous exotic animals (which is what I'm arguing, I know you're more for stricter requirements). At the end of the day, I don't care how sweet and loving you're pet tiger is, I don't want my kid to come across while walking down the street.

I am not one who blames the animal at all, but I consider pitbulls sinply too dangerous for the average "badass" to own.

I have an 80 lb pit / cane corso mix. Would not let him anywhere near children. Or the elderly. Or strangers in general, really. He's very protective of the house.

Whenever he is at the vet, I always make sure to muzzle him. JUST IN CASE. He has the capability of serious damage, right? So I plan accordingly so that doesn't happen. In general he turns into a baby at the vets though, really hates his nails getting clipped off and whines. He'd kill a toddler inside of 15 seconds if he was blood rage mode, though. Lots of different dog breeds could, in fact.

Poor baby :'(

We used to own pit bulls. Ours were nice but I got smart and realised if they DID happen to go psycho on our kids it would be really bad. So we got rid of them. I don't want a dog that could do huge amounts of damage if they bite.

Good job man for being a responsible owner of a dangerous animal. Like i said, i know how sweet they can be. When my 8 year old cousin's family pit passed away last year, it was sad to see how much the kid missed him and would talk about him in heaven. You could tell he saw him as a member of the family.

But again, that doesnt take away the fact it is not safe to just "trust" the average person to take the proper precautions like you do, hence why there are such strict requirements to legally own a tiger and why you cant just walk down the street with it. When you take emotion out its a simple decision. The only part to determine is whats the best way to go about it.

When he was a puppy I was really socializing him. But some jabroni brought out a dog treat in front of him and another pitbull. The other pit knobbed off a sizable chunk of his ear (it's a small scar now, looks badass really, but it was HUGE when he was little) and I drove him bleeding to a vet. After that I kept him pretty isolated. He got more defensive after that incident. He is a good dog but he can snap like any other dog, and if he does he has way more power to fuk sh!t up.

With the "logic" of banning animals capable of harming humans, you would also be inclined to ban people from living in a climate where the temp can get below 32 degrees f because 15 people a year are killed by icicles, and only 10 a year by dogs. While we are at it we're going to need to do away with anything poisonous, flamable, higher than 18", deeper than 1/4", and harder than nerf.

......And even after all of this a negligent parent will still find a way to blame something for their own irresponsibility.

Maybe we can hold people accountable for their own actions, or in-actions.

If a person who owns a pitbull allows the dog to attack another person fatally, the punishment should be life in prison. If the pitbull maims the victim, at least 20+ years. In cases where the negligence is on the part of the victim, I don't think you can punish the owner.

I personally won't associate with pitbull owners if the dog is anywhere nearby. I think they are ****ing retarded.

Ok, ive said multiple times its not just pitbulls im advocating for, and lol i didnt mislabel anything. Here, ill make it a little clearer. Any animal that can cause life threatening injuries should have stricter regulations compared to less threatening animals for the sake of public safety. Is that easier for you buddy? or you gunna keep bringing up strawmans?

My friends pit ripped the jaw off another friends dog and the they never put it down (dog killed was doing nothinh just got killed for no reason )

They recently posted a "gentle giant" picture of the killer and said he would never hurt anything.

One day it will kill a child too i fear.

People who are arguing that it's the owners fault and the breed shouldn't be restricted, are missing the point of outlawing or controlling anything. Pitbulls are clearly genetically predisposed to vicious behavior when exposed to the wrong environment i.e. a bad owner.

For the safety of society, certain breeds should be restricted. Are these stats wrong?

I'm sure the father in question believed the same thing and his kid paid the price for his arrogance. Imagine you are that father any your kid grows up to read this. It amazes me that attitude of parents what put being right over the safety of their own child.

You remind me of the father that argued with me because I said something about his smoking over his two little ones. The oldest was barely two. The other was still in the crib.

A dog owner isALWAYSresponsible for his animal. The only exception for the owner is on private property. Never bring a vicious animal (or one you cannot control) out into public.
