I've slowly lost interest over a period of time, played them way too much when I was younger. When they come out with Quake Champions I'll probably give it a shot but I won't dedicate nearly as much time towards games as I have in my teenage years.
I never try anything I just do it!

Yea basically, lifes a waste of time in and of itself I feel like, only worthwhile pursuit is having fun IMO even if its "waste of time"

I'm generally not happy or unhappy, I'm pretty indifferent I just see life for what it is

I was overall happier throughout the day and got more positive hormone dumps and ecstatic moods when I was gaming

That feeling of going on raids and winning phat loots or doing runs and getting phat loots, kept my mind stimulated and something to constantly look forward to.

But I had other plans for life, I ended up phasing into competitive bodybuilding and theres just no room to really play games much when you work full time and also bodybuild.

I had a period where I didn't play for almost a year. Found out about The Division and one of my old best friends played it. Bought that and xbone and ended up playing that up to this day and rekindling our friendship no homer

Thats debatable, the difference between having a hobby like lifting vs playing video games is that it doesn't give you anything but entertainment, little to nothing of what you learn inside the videogames can be applied to your life.

It's like consuming entertainment in excess in general wether it be netflix, videogames or pron, you blow countless hours into this chit and get nothing in return but temporary pleasure.

Yes I did. I was so consumed by first person shooter games. I used to be a Rouge Spears junkie. (before COD and others) That stuff can seriously burn a lot of your time and when you're not playing all you can do is think about it. No matter what was going on, if I were playing, I was fine. I think what kind of cracked it was going online to play. I got destroyed so fast I felt like I didn't know how to play at all. Turned out that everyone was using cheat codes and there were no controls on it back then. Still, got me to step away from it and focused my life on other things. Now, I can't get coordinated on the new controllers so I just leave it at that because I get addicted to watching people play, so help me God if I ever got to playing.

Video games are great. They can be a tool for networking, stimulation for the mind, and a way to decompress.

You bet your balls our forebears would have played them if the technology were available back then.

We are the first generation to grow up with them. That's nothing to be ashamed of. It's something to appreciate.

Of course they can be addicting. But tell me what isn't?

I used to be addicted. But even after I quit, it didn't take long before I realized they weren't my problem.

The only factor that determines whether you live a great life or not is you.

I haven't deliberately quit really, I just never spend much time playing them anymore. They just don't keep my attention, and I don't ever feel like I want to play them. And I always regret buying a game because I'll play it for a couple days or a week, then never use it again. Seems like such a waste every time.

Right? People quit video games, but then binge watch netflix for 5 hours a day.

It's called self control OP. Play on the weekends for a few hours after you went to the gym and finished all your errands.

Yeah, and it's to the point where I get bored very quickly every time I try getting back into it. I also have a massive amount of regret for spending so much time gaming when I was younger. Reading, diving, lifting, and golf >>>>> vidya bullchit.

40-45 hours of work per week, 45-50 hours of sleep, 15 hours of gym per week= thats at max 110 hours. Now you have 58 hours to work with. Even if you worked 60 hours a week and had a sig other that takes up 20 hours of your life per week you still have time to game here and there.

Yeah quitting videogames (MMO's mainly) went hand in hand with me quitting the misc, which allowed me to go from a neckbeard to the man you all idolize now.

yeah like others said it depends on the individual and how you manage your time.

for me gaming is just a waste of time. i actually wanna work on something i like and theres always productive chit i could be doing.

i recently got into photography and film making so sometimes i do that in my free time. music, tv, hanging out, reading, etc. all just seem to have more value than gaming IMO.
I used to be a pretty big gamer (I have like 3-4k hours logged into dota 2, 1k hours on tf2, probably 7k total on steam) reached rank 2 on hearthstone, etc. but its just a waste of time to me. IMO. yes its fun, and relieves stress but i have a bunch of other things to do to relieve stress too. i just wanna focus on "real life" instead of escapism. although im not syaing im quitting for good, just busy enough to not go back to it.
plus when i was gaming i was procrastinating on my work, not really getting into my hobbies, or starting new things etc. plus too much scren time isnt good

1. I tend to agree with this, but it seems like video games are the only form of entertainment that constantly gets called out

2. You get FUN out if it, which is the only reason to be alive in my opinion. DO whatever makes you happy, even if its not productive. life doesnt matter

I'm considering it at the moment, srs.

I've recently realized I'm playing way too much. Ideally I would like to cut down instead of quitting completely, but I have a bad history of addictive behaviour which probably means it would be a lot easier to quit completely than to try to manage my time on it.

entertainment addiction is a problem in our society, television, internet video games, porn etc.
Just because it is pleasurable doesn't mean you should do it (especially to excess)
Pointless entertainment has its use in moderation, but it is a terrible way spend your life
find something more meaningful that doesn't cause you to regress into a little child that can't stop eating sugary candy

I get your sentiment but you are not objectively right.

first of all, who's to say what excess is? Is something that makes you happy pointless? How do you define meaningful?

all of these questions are up to the individual. I'm at a place in my life where having fun and enjoying myself is all that matters, and I love videogames so I'll play as much as I feel like. It would be retarded not to do that, on my death bed I wont regret doing what made me happy.

Very rarely nowadays, and the only games I play are competitive (OW and Hearthstone on my phone, mainly when I'm on the road). I can handle like 30 mins to an hour, any more than that and I start questioning what the fuark I'm doing with my time.

EDIT: I can't handle single player games, would rather watch a movie/ TV or read a book.

how are movies, tv, and even most books depending on what you read any less a waste of time than games though?

You're right, it's just my viewpoint on entertainment. But that it has little utility in your life other than pleasure. You're happy when you partake in it but how do you feel when you aren't? Is it the main source of pleasure you have, or could you do something else and not feel like you are missing something?
There's a difference between feeling pleasure from consuming something (video games) and accomplishing or learning or experiencing

Are you sure that the memory of "feeling good" at some point in your life is sufficient enough?
There are many ways to feel good, some are addictive and dangerous, some are just addictive

I think the false premise in some of the thinking itt is that you cant enjoy videogames and even play them a lot while also doing other things. I play videogames a lot, and I still have other hobbies, and do other things.

Not even I would enjoy it if thats literally all I did. But some people do.

FUn is fun is fun, doesnt matter how you get it. Just depends on the person

Many films, books, tv shows, and even some video games with complex story lines give you perspective. However, it will be harder to learn anything of value from video games than from films, same with tv shows and books

Your logic presupposes you're happy and enjoying life. Yet, your previous comment makes it pretty clear that you're not really happy or joyful. This is a contradiction and internal clash which basically says you're not sure what happiness and real joy is. If you're not sure, you can't really state that you have it or experience it.

Real happiness/joy/fulfillment isn't the elevated mood you get when opening an exciting new present.

Again, it totally depends on the kinds of games/shows/films/books you are into.

I've been touched and learned from videogames, shows, and films. Its all art

FUn is fun is fun, doesnt matter how you get it. Just depends on the person
Well I think it does matter what type of "fun" you get
A person might turn on a TV and stare at it mindlessly for 3 hours, getting cheap laughs at recycled jokes. This is bad fun, it requires no thought or engagement with the entertainment, on the extreme side there is alcohol/drugs etc. which is harmful fun
At least in (some) video games you are actively participating and attempting to accomplish something, even if it is in a disconnected world at least your mind is working

In good film/novels/art the only way to actually derive any pleasure is to completely engage with the material so you can find something of value on your own
You aren't instantly gratified and it requires effort so you can learn something new
